I believe AT has stated that the new EVH pickups are not a drop in replacement, I'll wait for him to clarify. I played an evh special breifly and from what I gather, the pickups are
-a bit less output than the PV
    -has more vintage character
    -easy to pull off harmonics
    -spongier less stiff character

This is from what I've read online and heard in demos, wait for some others to clarify.

I'd pretty much agree with GuitarGoalie. I own a Peavey Wolf, have owned an EVH/Fender Wolf, and have also put the EVH/Fender pickups in another super strat I own...I think the Fender versions are far superior. More articulate, clean up better, well rounded eq, better clean sound, split better, everything. The only thing I'd pick the Peavey pickups for would be straight up metal. But if we're talking all around usability, I definitely prefer the Fender pickups.

What they said. That being said, I prefer the EVH Frankenstein pickup in the bridge position. The drawback is that it's not coil tappable. It's the best rock pickup I've used. Doesn't clean up as well as the EVH Wolf pickup, but it rocks on high gain with a great full rich sound, combined with clarity of each note. Sounds thick without sounding muddy. EVH Wolf pickup comes close, but doesn't sound as hot or thick.

New EVH pickups are better. And yes,(or is it no?)they don't fit into the PV Wolf without removing wood or taking apart your pickup and swapping the feet. Tone Zone used to be my replacement pickup of choice. Most likely go with the new Wolfgang pickups next time I build a guitar.

I put a set of Fender/EVH Wolf pickups in my goldtop Peavey Wolfgang a few years ago. Like the Peavey pups, they're Alnico V magnets and register a similar output (17k neck, 14k bridge). The most noticeable difference: the Fender/EVH pups are brighter--especially in the high-mids. I found out right away that playing the bridge pickup through a 5150 212 combo on the lead channel produced some amazing overtones; it was incredibly musical. (Around that time I posted here that while mixing the song I was recording with that setup I had to solo tracks to find what sounded like an "organ." Turns out it was the guitar tracks--that EVH bridge pickup was singing.) All that being said, I genuinely love the Peavey Wolf pickups. I think the Fender/EVH versions are an improvement, but you're by no means missing out on greatness otherwise. I still prefer the Peavey neck pickup (because I love its low-mid "hum").

I had to trim down the edges of the EVH pups' mounting ears to fit the Peavey. A stone grinder on a rotary tool (like a Dremel) and eye protection is all it took.

Additional thought: I coil tapped the Peavey Wolf pickups a few different times. The result was by no means an amazing single coil sound, but it was still usable. I'm quite curious to do the same to the new EVH Wolf pups; I'm willing to bet they're better.

Hey, AT, have you ever run the Peavey neck pickup in parallel? If so, how was it? I've been thinking if doing this to my Wolfie to get a bit brighter, more articulate tone out of it.
