    Holy Freakin' Mackerel ⊙.◎ !!

Steve Vai, Billy Sheehan & Mike Portnoy plays Shyboy at Metal Masters 5

if only DLR had showed up.

Not the first time time Vai and Sheehan have played Shy Boy.

For me, and I now I am probably in the minority on a VH board, that kind of stuff is really impressive, and it makes me want to practice harder, and it bores me to tears to listen to more than one minute of it.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Well, for me, it brings back cool memories of G3 here in Raleigh in the late '90s. Nice stuff! it was even better back then...

It's not a DLR song. It's a song written by Billy Sheehan and his former band, Talas. I believe it was written around '78. It's very cool to see Vai and Sheehan play live together again.
    Just go for it!

Very nice to see talent like that on the same stage again. I saw them on the G3 years ago they did that same song. I saw Billy on his B3 tour along with Jeff Berlin and Stu Hamm. Met all those guys after at the 8x10 club in Baltimore. Jeff Berlin is sitting at the bar and asked me how they sounded? I was floored. I asked Billy why Mike was not on the B3 tour and he said he didn't know? but would be good to have some harmony!lol

Dave changed a considerable portion of the original Talas lyrics for EEAS.
Still has the same basic meaning, but tightened them up a bit.

The above 2014 live version appears to be a combination of both DLR and Talas versions.

I still can't understand all the words.

Here's the original (well, live) version by Talas:

    Here's a comparison with DLR's lyrics.

"*" indicates a change (I typed when I could understand the TALAS version):

On the stage I'm in a rage but you I never fool [CHANGED FROM TALAS VER.]
Well I can rock with anyone* [I can rock 100,000...]
But not alone with you [CHANGED FROM TALAS VER.]
Somethin' starts a barkin' [CHANGED FROM TALAS VER.]
    Now deep inside of me
I need a classy woman* [I need aggressive women]
To knock me off my feet

    (chorus)
    Shyboy, shyboy, shyboy, shyboy
Shyboy, shyboy, give it one more time boy
    Shyboy, shyboy, shyboy, shyboy
Shyboy, shyboy, give it one more time boy

Oh, you make me nervous* [CHANGED FROM TALAS VER.]
More than I had planned* [all across the land]
Would you wanna know me [you wouldn't want to know me...]
If I wasn't in the band
Crazy feelings deep inside of me * [I don't know just what it is that does this thing to me]
I need a wild woman* [I need aggressive women]
To knock me off my feet

    (chorus)

    Gotta keep things moving
    Till my personality starts improving

    =End=

If you can hear or know the original Talas lyrics, feel free to make corrections. Thank you.

    Cheers,
    mrC

    Cool !!!
I enjoyed that a lot . It's good to see those two play together again . Always a treat to watch

Mr. Vai never ceases to amaze and astound ...
"There's too many people on this basketball that's floating around the sun, who are too afraid to allow themselves to FEEL" - Edward Van Halen
"Van Halen was never about the singer..." - a very wise fan.
"Embrace the past. Live in the moment but keep your eyes on the future, and keep on moving forward..." - Richie Sambora
