Default Patty Smyth original choice to replace DLR

I'm sure this is not new news for many but Patty Smyth talks about how she was approached and turned down the gig before they approached Sammy. I guess they knew they wanted to replace DLR with a woman all along.

Now THAT would have been a disaster imo. Even though I think she's a great vocalist, she definitely didn't fit the image of Van Halen. Ed must have either been high or drunk when he asked her. Or perhaps smitten with her. Glad it never happened.

Never liked her, with her weird poetry songs, hairy armpits and all that. Yuck.

You're thinking of Patty SMITH. To which I agree, nasty looking.

To be honest, I think you are thinking of the wrong woman. I don't know how you spell the one you are thinking of, but you are thinking of the rock and roll hall of famer that made Springsteen's "Because the Night Belongs to Us" popular.

The Patty from this thread is the "I am the Warrior" broad..possibly not as talented, but a whole lot better looking, for the record.

I noticed in the article that Patty mentions about Valerie B "downplaying" her association with Ed in her book. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

Thank GOD that never happened. It would have been a very bad move. A chick lead singer is not the right fit for Van Halen.

This just highlights how important it was/is to make sure Ed isn't in complete control.

He has no concept of what is right for VH, but then again, maybe he doesn't care.

Sass Jordan was the original choice to replace Sammy. She recorded with them. I'd like to hear that stuff.
