Default New album needs new singer / producer

Ok, how can anyone be negative about the news of new Van Halen music?!

I get it and will support any VH new music and tour.

But rather than get a round two of out takes and demo's that were not good enough back in the day, and not good enough for ADKOT, wouldn't it be cool to see the band embrace a new lead singer or multiple for next album?

I personally would prefer a new, respected producer that could bring something to the table besides a good sound. Someone the band would listen to and respect the fact he would push them hard to go places they have never been.

Then employ the "guest singer" approach mentioned pre-Sammy.. Why?

    1) We have our "out takes" album, finishing the best riff's heard over the years. Don't need another..
    2) Dave can no longer sing. I have been there since the first album. Had Dave's "splits" poster hung in my room. I am a huge Dave fan. However, the last album & tour did it for me. His strained singing is to the point he is ruining his and the bands legacy. Go out respectfully now. Even physically (never thought that would happen to Dave) he can barely move these days..
    3) This will allow Wolf to have more input, breathing new life into the band. Younger singer(s) might also cross over to his generation.

We got our new music from a Dave fronted band. Best that could be expected given:

    1) Yes man producer
    2) Dave not even in the same fucking city while making the album
    3) Mostly out takes that didn't cut it back in the day..

Now, with Ed healthy, Wolf more ready to take on more, time to push the band to stretch out one last time before the tank is dry.. Take them to a castle in Europe and record a masterpiece..While I will support it, I don't want another ADKOT and like tour..

    Better production definitely.

Don't agree at all about a bunch of guest singers.

No doubt Dave's voice sucks pretty bad now. They'll need to work some studio magic to disguise it. It's painful listening to him trying to reach any kind of high pitch. Don't see how they can possible do another tour with him.

VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

    Are you nuts?

What makes the Dave and Eddie recipe work so well is the unique character and quirkiness of Dave's vocal performances.

No one on the planet can replicate the totally one of a kind style of his parts.

He brings so much bravado, humour, and bluesy edge to Van Halen. The sleekness of Eddies guitar works perfectly with a rough blues singer BECAUSE THEY CREATE A CONTRASTED BALANCE.

    ----
    ALSO:

in the studio, DLR has 4 tools to work with:

    1 multiple takes
2 vocal comping in Pro Tools
    3 pitch correction with Autotune
4 lots of time coming from an unlimited budget

Probably am nuts to wish for what I described, but the way they work these days, I just think we get ADKOT out takes.

Hope i'm wrong and I respect everyone's opinion..
Someone just needs to explain to me how we can expect better with Dave not in the same studio and his vocal challenges.. Regardless of computers and hundreds of takes..

Dave just needs to realize his limitations. He's fine when singing in a lower register. He's overcompensating, because he cant do the acrobatic stuff anymore.

When it comes to vocals, with a talented pro tools operator, you are half way home.

Dave can easily sing one section or even one line at a time, and it can simply be assembled.

In other words, you just have to be patient and keep experimenting. Dave already has fantastic lyrics to work from, and he has an great sense of timing and phrasing... Which to me are the hardest parts of being a pro vocalist.

Dave will NOT be the bottleneck...The songwriting from Eddies end will be the make it or break it element

Agree. Dave is a great singer but he needs to stop trying these higher melodies. Just be himself. Someone needs to help him understand/visualize the range he excels with.

I always wonder how if the production issues with ADKOT would ben overlooked if a certain member was playing bass?

5150, OU812, Diver Down have terrible production. Yet nobody bitches as much as ADKOT.

Dave sounded like a castrated cat on Me Wise Magic yet nobody rips on his vocals.

Sorry. Leave Dave in the band. As like as Mike Post doesn't hover around the studio, shit will be fine.

there is no such thing as producer who isn't essentially going to be "pushing the buttons" for Ed at this point in his career. Ted coming out of retirement? Maybe only because of their history, but that isn't going to happen. Ed, as far as he's concerned, thinks he knows how to get the best sound out of the band and no producer is going to come in and tell him otherwise. Just the way it is.
