Hello!

Well i am new fan of Van Halen.
i picked up a copy of Van Halen, Best of Volume 1 and I admit i had never really heard much of van halen (i was 15 at the time) apart from Dreams, Jump and Right Now.
So i picked it up mainly because of those songs! Now a year later i am a huge Van Halen fan. I love em man! They are one of my 4 fave bands (Metallica, VAN HALEN, Slayer, Bon Jovi) Ok now this is what i need help with. I turn 16 soon and for my bday my mum asked if i would like anything else additional to the present im getting. So im not sure wether to get OU812 or BALANCE? I borrowed Balance off a friend and loved it but i have never heard most of the songs from OU812. So if i get Balance i know i will be happy in what i am getting but i would have listened to it before. On the other hand OU812 which i have never listened might be better. So i would appreciate your help here!

I'd go with Balance, the dream is over.

There's a thread about OU812 in the "Songs/Albums/Videos" forum you might want to check out for some viewpoints. Just click below.

And it's always cool to see a young fan such as yourself getting into Van Halen.

Well, for me if I was a new VH fan I would check out the "remastered" Cd's. Which are the first six VH albums done that enhanced the original's quite a bit. My preference on which ones to get and if I only had three to get I would say:

84'
Fair Warning
5150

Although 5150 was the first with Sammy Hagar it was their best in my opinion. As far as ou812 is concerned a true engineer peice of crap. Same with VHIII or VH3, peice o' shit.

Okay one more Top 3?, ... before I go.

Van Halen
Women and Children First
Van Halen II

Dude fuck it, spend the $80 and buy the whole first 6 albums(remastered) of VH. You won't regret it. Lol ...

If you like Sammy Hagar or Van Hagar then I would suggest:

For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge
Balance
ou812
Live Right Here Right Now

Its nice to see the young generation
appreciate true Rock N Roll.
If your a new fan you must have the 1st
Album "Van Halen 1". Its the trade mark of Van Halen. I would also suggest For Unlawfull
Carnal Knollage If you want another Sammy ara record. Make ou812 your last record because I feel its Van Halen's weekest effort.

Hey, the dream is over! New VH fans rule!! I just figured out who Van Halen was in 1998. I was 16 then.

You MUST get into the Dave stuff! Start with the first album. And Fair Warning. A lot of fans who got into the Sam era first (me) didn't get into FW right away, but it totally grows on you, and now I love it as much as Balance. Yeah, I absolutely would recommend Balance. Hey, the awesome thing about VH is that every album is a little different, and there is something for everyone in there.

Hell, you need to get ALL the albums. When I first got into VH, I prowled the used CD stores until I found them all.

I second Maya, you should get through the first semester of VH 101 with the Dave era stuff, then move on. Needless to say, you shouldn't deny youself ANY Van Halen album.

Welcome on!

Of the albums you don't have yet, I would suggest getting Van Halen, Fair Warning, and Balance.
