    Default Olympic Hockey Thread

the one sport that we'll all be watching at the Olympics deserves it's own thread. I think we'd all sign up for another Canada/USA final.

The final in 2010 was great to watch. Hopefully, U.S.A. can finish what they started.

I would like to see US/Canada final but just can't see it happening on the big ice.

Sweden , Finland , Russia and Czechs all have a great chance of making it to the final.

The big teams should all get to the Qualification Round on Feb 18th. That is when it will get tough.

Canada has a pretty easy draw to start getting Norway and Austria. They also get Finland which could surprise with a good goaltender. The 2 easy wins gets them through though in good position.

USA could easily lose to Russia or even Solvakia in the Prelims. Tougher draw.

Bottom line in a short tourney is your goalie needs to get hot, and you need a little luck along the way. Getting some timely scoring wouldn't hurt either...haha...

As we saw in 2010, a good bounce or 1 great play can turn an entire game at the right moment.

First day of practice for TEAM USA today.

    Forward lines:
    Brown-Kesler-Kane
    Parise-Backes-Oshie
    Kessel-Pavelski-JVR
    Pacioretty-Stastny-Callahan

Interesting that they have split up the snipers. Kane on a line, Parise on a line and Kessel on a line.

I do like that they kept Kessel and JVR together. Maybe they will have some chemistry from playing together in Toronto. Same thing with Backes and Oshie from St Louis.

    +++++++++

Really it is going to be up to John Quick to play out of his fuckin mind if the USA is going to get a medal. He needs to channel Mike Ritcher from the 96 World Cup or Ryan Miller from the 2010 Olympics.

    Also.....

did you guys get a look at the Russian 1st line.

    Ovechkin-Malkin-Semin

Also looks like Datsyuk may be out for now. Svitov was centering Raulov and Kovalchuck in his place.

that's not too bad a roster. Kind of funny seeing a guy who's 12th in scoring in the NHL listed as an extra and #11 wasn't good enough to crack the roster. lol. what an obscene amount of talent.

Supposedly, the US defensive parings are:

    Suter-Fowler
    McDonagh-Carlson
    Martin-Shattenkirk
    Orpik-Faulk

My first reaction to seeing the lines was "Where is Derek Stepan?" But after digesting those lines, he is most definitely the #5 center in that lineup.

After looking at these rosters I realize I need to pay attention to more teams than just the Bruins. I've totally lost touch with the young players in the league. Used to be second nature to name the Americans in the NHL. Now? Fuck if I know.

Would be the best thing that ever happened to that league. For so many reasons.

the level of hockey would be amazing if they ever did that. Same thing could be said for the NBA, MLB and NFL for that matter.
