Default Floyd Nut Sizes vs Neck Radius

Question for all the builders and technical guru's on the forum.

Jackson uses R3 Nuts for the most models which are a 12 inch radius. Most Jackson necks are also 12-16 radius. This makes sense.

Why do I hear of other manufactures or artists using an R2 or R4. The radius of the nuts is 10 inches and would this not give you action issues on your middle strings with flat radius boards? The guitar that got me thinking about this is this Kramer Baretta Reissue. Can you get Floyd Nuts in different radius - like an R2 in 14inch? I have never heard of a way to raise or lower a specific string at the nut of a locking nut?

I think all Floyd's are made for 12 inch radius. There's a shim under the saddles. Remove it for 10 in. Radius. I think. Maybe I got it backwards. I'm pretty sure the different nut sizes are for neck widths. R2 is 1-5/8 for example. Only way to raise the strings at the nut is a shim. Lowering requires wood to be removed.

The shim only affects string height. Radius is the roundness of the fretboard.

All actual Floyd Rose nuts are 10" radius except the R10 and the 7 string. Licensed nuts can be whatever they want them to be, like the nut used on the Peavey Wolfgangs which has a 15" radius or nuts made by Gotoh for Ibanez, which are a 16" radius.

Here is the official chart straight from FloydRose.com.
