Default A big Van Halen record/achievement most people don't realize

Was thinking about this the other day and thought it could be true, and so today I checked. Turns out, I was right: our boys have the most consecutive multi-platinum studio albums in the U.S. with 10. All artists. All time.

And not just hard rock, but everything. In terms of hard rock, Zeppelin and Metallica are in second place with 9, and Metallica's next one probably won't given the times. Aerosmith, AC/DC, Pearl Jam, Queen, The Who--nope.

But I also checked Elvis, The Beatles, The Stones, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Elton John, Eagles, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Pink Floyd, Garth Brooks, U2, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Abba--not a one. Am I missing anyone?

I'd say that's hugely impressive and should be more recognized. More than the most #1 songs on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Charts and anything else. This is like an MLB fuckin' home run record.

I never heard anyone say that, and again, just thought of that possibility the other day in the shower.

Default this achievement says it all

When we were kids in high school we spent a lot of time talking music and arguing about our fav bands. And their streak of platinum records was a major point we VH fans would bring up when it got heated. We knew once we brought this fact up no one could argue.
6 platinum records in a row was unheard of only Zep had that and Foreigner had a streak going as well.We didnt care about #1 records we knew platinum was the major accomplishment

Not to take away from what you're saying, but I'm pretty sure Garth Brooks has this record beat. Every one of his 12 original albums (not counting the live album, greatest hits packages, or boxed sets) has gone multi platinum.

Also, with 209.1 million albums sold in the U.S., in find it hard to believe the Beatles have any albums (UK or US releases) that are not at least multi-platinum in the U.S., but I guess I'll take your word for it.

Still a wicked cool achievement for the boys though, and not one to be taken lightly.

Actually they both are major accomplishments. You're only saying that now because all of VHs #1 albums are with Sam and you can't bear having to give the guy any credit for anything positive. If Dave had 4 straight #1s, we'd never hear the end of it from you. You know how you are.

Ha! Seriously laughed at this owning.

No we really didnt care because we knew the billboard charts were rigged, before soundscan.I knew something was up when everyone I knew had for instance the new Maiden record and on billboard it wasnt even in the top 10.So that is the reason every band has a #1 record after SS came around.and if it was there in 78 they all would be #1 with Dave.So nothing against Sam it is just that the charts were rigged when Dave was in the band and after SS came around it was obvious every huge band would have a #1.

It's nice, but I don't think Fair Warning went platinum untill the late 90's at best.

FW was certified platinum Nov. 18, 1981, almost 7 mos after its initial release; FW was certified 2x-platinum in Aug. 1994. FW has not been audited since then -- in 20 years, it is hard to imagine how many copies have been sold, but I would be surprised if FW wasn't a 4x-platinum album by now.

The last audit from the VH album-catalog was in Aug. 2004 -- the entire catalog is over-due for auditing and updating of sales figures. Typically, the record company sends the request and pays the fee, but since VH has split from Warner Bros., I'm not sure how this would work now.
