    Default Cab question-

Is the original 5150 or 6505 quad box stereo?
If not- is it possible to wire it to be stereo?
I think the speakers are all 16 ohms from memory-
I used to be 'sean112' but lost all my details!

Not stereo. I guess you could rewire it and add an input jack. 5150 4x12 cabs are super cheap too. I see them in the $200 range regularly.

Just out of curiosity, why do you want a stereo 412 cab?

I'm running a wet/ dry rig. I was using two JCM900s but it was overkill- plus the fact that the space I play in wasn't big enough for two cabs to sound tight. I found that if I changed the ohms on the equipment to run at 8 I could run one quad in stereo and get a more focused sound.

I had wondered about that too . Some of the old Marshall JCM 900 series cabinets were stereo , right ?

Yep- the ones I had were- 16ohm input, 4ohm input and stereo 8ohm inputs.
I've got a suspicion that only the newest 6505 cabs are stereo though. I think the older ones and the 5150s were 16ohm input but with a 6.5 mm or an xlr input and that was the only choice.

    That's right , thanks !

It's been a while since I've played through that kind of setup . I've been out of the club circuit for quite a while , and have been using smaller combo amps lately .

Don't quote me on that though- I'm not sure. It's just what I seen on the net. If I can get hold of a 5150 or old 6505 I will probably end up having to rewire for 8ohm stereo and either put in a plate to house the inputs or use one xlr lead and one 6.5- at least that's my theory

No , I think you're correct . At least from my memory of them . LOL
I'm not tech savvy with the rewiring parts though ...
