Sometimes I have to wonder if some of these incidents are staged.

the 43 year old guy died

I'm familiar with this theatre....saw a couple of movies there

not in a bad area.....Wesley Chapel is one of those upper scale planned community type areas where you can drive for 15 minutes thru a subdivision and have no idea where you are because every block and every mailbox and every front door and every garage door looks the same and all the houses are painted "sand" "beige" "tan" or "taupe" and if you leave your garbage can out after 4 pm or park your car on the street the HOA cops will be there shortly

then you exit and go to the next subdivision and it's different but the same....500 houses built by 3 builders using 7 floor plans and 3 shingle colors, 5 paint colors and the same landscaper. "starting from the low $190,000's"

I think the guy just went nuts

    good schools tho

She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted.

Default Man shot dead in Florida movie theatre in texting spat

What the hell is wrong with people?

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. -- An argument over texting in a Florida movie theatre ended with a retired police captain fatally shooting a man sitting in front of him, authorities said.

Curtis Reeves, 71, has been charged with second-degree murder.

"Somebody throws popcorn. I'm not sure who threw the popcorn," said Charles Cummings, who was about to watch the movie "Lone Survivor" on Monday.

"And then bang, he was shot."

Pasco County Sheriff's officials said the shooting happened when Reeves asked 43-year-old Chad Oulson to stop texting at the theatre.

Reeves and his wife were sitting behind Oulson and his wife. Oulson told Reeves he was texting with his 3-year-old daughter, Cummings said.

"It ended almost as quickly as it started," said sheriff's spokesman Doug Tobin. The sheriff's office says an off-duty deputy detained Reeves until police arrived.

Cummings, who had blood on his clothes, told a group of reporters Monday afternoon the show was still in previews when the two couples started arguing.

Cummings said the men started raising their voices and popcorn was thrown. Authorities said Reeves took out a gun, Oulson's wife put her hand over her husband and Reeves fired his weapon, striking Nichole Oulson in the hand and her husband in the chest.

"I can't believe people would bring a pistol, a gun, to a movie," Cummings said. "I can't believe they would argue and fight and shoot one another over popcorn. Over a cellphone."

Cummings, who said he was a combat Marine in Vietnam, said Oulson fell onto him and his son.

"Blood started coming out of his mouth," said Alex Cummings. "It was just a very bad scene."

A man sitting next to the shooter grabbed the gun out of his hand, and the suspect did not attempt to get away, Cummings said.

Chad Oulson died at a hospital, Tobin said. His wife's injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Tampa Police spokeswoman Laura McElroy said in a news release that Reeves was a captain when he retired from the department in 1993.

It's not immediately clear whether he has retained an attorney.

They usually do. And, unfortunately, many nuts have access to guns.

The couple were texting? Texting? Not talking on the phone in a movie theater, but texting? Were they reading the texts out loud? If the texting bothered him so much, couldn't he just move his seat? Afterall, he did get up once to leave the theater and come back in.

this is where the anti-gun people like to point out that availablility of a weapon causes a shooting. If that guy is unarmed he goes to get a manager and if that doesn't work he changes seats or maybe he tells the guy off and leaves. Add a gun to the equation and you got a dead man. Lovely.

Not defending the shooter, but in a dark theater when someone is a row or a few rows in front of you fucking with their phone texting, that light is really distracting.

Common sense courtesy is dead in this country.

not nearly as distracting as being shot to death.

    I agree with you a 100%.

But it should also be common sense that you don't put a bullet in a guy because he was texting in a movie theater. Or bring a gun to the movie theater.

Can't wait to hear the defense's take on this one.

He should show up, stand up, say "I'm sorry. I lost it. I'm guilty."

Case closed, guilty as charged, sentence him, take him to jail, this court is adjourned.

So many lives ruined here. Not because of a gun, but because of stupid human anger and pride, and someone feeling a bit too "disrespected" to let it go.

Yeah, it may have been irritating. But the movie hadn't even started yet. This ordeal took place during the previews. In the theater I go to the lights don't even go all the way down until the actual movie starts, so the light from the texting couldn't have been that bad.

Maybe it was the text alert volume that annoyed him. When I get a text the alert is DLR saying "I'll tell you all about it" from RWTD

Silly question: Is it really possible to text with a 3 year old?

people have got to get over themselves and over the idea that anything that annoys you, or that you do not like requires some kind of corrective action.

what happened to just ignoring stuff?...but no one wants to do that

what I find whacky is that the shooter was a retired cop...trained to defuse tense situations and deal with altercations, right?

Worked at a theater back in my school days and this brought back some memories. A very similar situation except mine was a federal agent who i knew personally and four folks who were talking and joking during the previews. The person I knew came out three times to complain. I went in and informed the folks about the issue. Some words were spoken but it didn't go any furthur. The same individual had some publicized road rage issues within the last few years. Just a sad day for a lot of folks....
