High-quality guitar which can be had at a great price. I've had one since 1998, and still love it. I'd buy them all up if I could.

They are great guitars. I've owned 4 different ones over the years. You see them for all different prices, but in my opinion, if you can't pick one up for under $700.00 U.S., it's overpriced. Even at $700, it could be considered overpriced. A good one in players condition should sell anywhere between $500 to $650 U.S.

I've seen guys trying to sell them for around $1000. For that kind of money, you are better off with the EVH Wolf Special.

I have a white one. I've gotten rid of it TWICE, only to get it back. I have a Peavey Wolfgang as well-the regular model, not the Special. To me, while the Black Wolfie has a really nice look, especially the birdseye maple neck, it still doesn't sound nearly as good as my special. And thats not to say the Black Wolfie doesn't sound great! Both are excellent, but I favor my white Special. I agree with the Ebay pricing of these, they are marked up too high. If you can score one for around $500-600, you'll love it.

Of all the Wolfgang Specials that I've played, my favorite was the USA made Wolfgang Flame Top Special. It had an actual flame maple cap, not a veneer, so it actually impacted the tone and sustain. It was a great looking guitar, and made in limited quantity as compared to the other Peavey Wolfs. It's often confused with the Korean made quilt-top special, which can work to your advantage if the seller doesn't know what they have. It's the closest thing to the original EBMM/EVH that Peavey ever made.

If you can find one of these for under $900.00, buy it.

    Default Purple peavey

Thanks to the advice on here I just swapped a ESP beater for a Peavey usa special in purple.
It was worth the swap- this thing sounds fantastic!
I'm not overly keen on the color though- it doesn't seem like a color that Ed would of chosen?
So I tried reading up on it and as far as I can tell the purple was/ is slightly rare- is that right? I was considering painting it but if it's rare I should probably leave it.
Another thing I read was that it had dual graphite rods in the neck- I thought that only started happening with the Fender EVHs??
    Either way- nice guitar!

A purple Peavey Wolf Special is not a particularly rare color, but I wouldn't go to the trouble of painting it. I'd just enjoy tone and the playability of it.

Congrats on the new guitar. they are great.

Yeah, that's a debate that could be had forever. If you are a judging them based on country of origin, it's always better to get a U.S. made guitar, just because you helped support American jobs.

If you are judging based on features, you have to give the edge to the EVH Wolf Special. Stainless frets, thin skin paint, hardware and electronics (including a tone knob) all shared with its big brother.

If you are judging based on what a "feel" or "mojo" of the guitar, I just don't know what to say. If it just feels better to one person or another, that's just their preference.

I don't know how you can say that one is "better" than the other. They share a shape and a name, but are really different guitars.

I've owned them all, and I wouldn't trade my EVH Wolfgang Special for a Peavey Wolfgang Special. That's not to say that I wouldn't love to buy another Peavey for the right price. They are great too.

They do have two graphite reinforcement rods in the neck to help with stability due to the neck being unfinished. Started with the Peavey Wolfgang.
