This is my signature saying someone (you choose) made Van Halen better so I can say "Deal with it".

Just heard I'll Wait on the radio. Dave shines on that cut. Love the album, the tour, and that place in time. Thirty years...

Still love it. Even "Jump" (prefer the video version with the extra DLR 'OwwWhoa!').

    Default still sounds FRESH

Most bands by their 6th record are starting or already into their decline but not VH. Not only is it one of the biggest records of all time and made them a household name it actually kicks ass and is quite heavy.
Everyone is amazed by the Beatles doing what they did in 7 years but look at what VH did in about the same time. They come out with their 1st record and change music forever and finish it off with the 1984 Phenomenon.
2 diamond bookends what an amazing feat

I know it gets dogged here because of it being overplayed and keys but damn its a great album. Contains a lot of "bests" for me

Best ending to a VH song - Girl Gone Bad
Best tone - outro rhythm to Girl Gone Bad
    Best VH drum sound
Best intro to a song - Hot for Teacher

    Love the album

I never understood why they either took it out of the album version or added it to the video version. Why the discrepancy?

I agree, though. When I hear it on the radio that part always feels like it is lacking. That little ad lib keeps the energy up during that part of the song.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

I'm actually one of about three people who think that the best thing about ADKOT is Al's sound. He's never sounded better to my ears than on that record. FUCK comes in a close second.

I always ask myself that whenever I encounter it in other band's videos. The same thing happens in the intro for Rainbow's "All Night Long" video that isn't on the Down To Earth disc.
Graham has a "Whoa-whoaooooooo!" in the opening seconds that adds a lot to it despite being 2 seconds of sound.

Maybe some engineer or producer is listening to alternate takes after a record is pressed, has an epiphany, and makes a phone call.

When I listen to it now it is still a fresh sounding album. Girl gone bad is still one of my top 5 VH tunes ever, it is such a great composition and arrangement.

i'm one of the few who still loves when they play I'll Wait live. i think I'll Wait and Little Guitars are two of Dave's best jobs of actually singing by far.

Always wondered what the story behind that was. Anybody know?

I never get tired of listening to 1984.

You have your 'pop' song 'Jump'.
Your down and dirty 'Drop Dead Legs'.
Pumped up with 'Hot for Teacher'.
A great jam in 'Girl Gone Bad'.
There's 'Panama' which needs no introduction.
