    Default Assembling A Pedalboard

I'm looking to ditch my Boss GT-10 and assemble a pedalboard within the next couple years. I'm a rock guy and I'd like to be able to also handle some metal, r&b/funk, and country sounds.

Here's what I'm planning on having:
    -Volume pedal
    -Distortion
-Overdrive - possibly a Wampler Paisley Drive
-Boost - already have a BBE Boosta Grande
    -Delay
    -Chorus
    -Flange
    -Reverb
    -EQ
    -Tuner
    -Noise Reduction

    Here are some questions:
    1. What is the recommended signal path for what I have listed above?
    2. What pedalboard do you recommend? I want one that can power all my stuff.
    3. What are YOUR recommendations for pedals?

Here are my recommendations on pedals in my recommended order of signal, keeping in mind you're on a VH board and your taste in tone may lend that way.

-Flange - EVH MXR Flanger is great, TC Electronic has the Vortex and Dreamscape that are nice too. Dreamscape does Chorus as well…

-Overdrive - Wampler Paisley Drive. I own one of these and absolutely love it for low-gain tones. Definitely recommend this.

-Distortion - I don't use distortion pedals so I don't have a recommendation, but it should go after your OD.

-Boost - Whether your place your boost before or after your OD/Distortion is probably a matter of taste for you. Try both, they each have their advantages. Before gooses your OD/Distortion pedal, after raises the volume more.

From here on out I prefer these in the FX loop...

-EQ - I use a '74 MXR 6-Band EQ as a boost, and I'd assume the modern MXR EQ's get the job done just as well. Placement depends on your purpose. Place in the loop for more of a boost or to shape overall tone from amp, place before the amp to shape basic guitar tones.

-Volume pedal: Dunlop Volume (X) or Ernie Ball VP Jr.
    - w/ Tuner out: TC Electronic Polytune Mini or any of the Korg Pitchblack series.

-Chorus - TC Corona Chorus (or Dreamscape if you want to combine with your flanger.)

-Delay - I use a Line 6 M9 almost exclusively for delays and love it. Other options I've enjoyed have been the Boss DD-20 and TC Electronic Flashback (Flashback X4 if you need presets).

-Reverb - I had a Hardwire Reverb for a few years that sounded great. Just traded it for a TC Electronic Hall of Fame that I enjoy. There's a mini version of the HOF if you're looking to save space.

-Noise Reduction - I don't use noise reduction, but the MXR Noise Gates look really nice, they just got refreshed.

Somewhere on here is a whole thread about pedalboards. Lode built a badass one but damned if I can find it !

    Jedi,

How would you set the Corono Chorus? You using this for general chorus or to simulate detune?

Also, setting for the HOF? I just grabbed the mini but it's a bit of a pain to dial in a good reverb with the Tone Print software.

    Thanks

    Default Assembling A Pedalboard

    Ned,

I use chorus so infrequently that I don't own one. But when I need one for the occasional cover tune it's usually a light touch of chorus just for some 80s authenticity.

As for the hall of fame, I really dig the plate setting with a short pre-delay, decay and tone at 11 o'clock. Level is just enough to fill in the sound, but almost not noticeable till you turn it off. The spring and hall sounds are really great too.

I ditched my GT-3 for stomp boxes two yrs. ago. I can't give that GT-3 away now. Anyway, I got a Pedaltrain after a bunch of futzing around with my old college band-era single sheet of plywood. I got a:

    - Morley volume and wah-wah in one pedal that runs into a
    - Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensemble into a
    - Boss DD-3 into a
    - Joyo Vintage Overdrive (Chinese knock off of TS-9) into an
    - MXR Phase 90 script model into
    - MXR Flanger into
    - Xotic EP Booster into
    - Mod-Tone Tuner

I'll be making pancake connectors this weekend to free up some space on the board and will eventually swap out a TC Electronic chorus for my CE-5. My Soldano channel switcher is on there too, but runs directly into the head. If anyone wants a GT-3, I'll do trades.

I'm still trying to get myself the actual board to put my pedals on (gonna get a PedalTrain PT-3), but this is what I've got going on.

Guitar --> modded Vox V847 --> ModTone tuner pedal --> MXR 10-band EQ --> GuitarPCB Stage3 booster --> MXR Classic Overdrive --> BBE American Metal --> EHX Metal Muff w/Top Boost --> Line6 Roto Machine --> GFS Analog Delay --> Amp

I feel like I forgot one there... LOL

Also, I have both a GeneralGuitarGadgets Script Phase 90 kit and Violet Ram's Head Big Muff Pi kit in the works. Not sure exactly where they'll sit in the order of pedals, yet.
