Default Could This Be Magic live….

"Could This Be Magic" came up on the iPod this weekend. I've always loved that tune. Liked hearing VH do something odd, outside their wheelhouse. I guess that's why I like Diver Down more than most.
Anyway, listening it got me thinking…. I'd love to see Dave and Ed come out in concert during which would normally be Dave doing his twanging on the acoustic for Ice Cream Man intro and instead just the two of them sit and play "Could This Be Magic." It totally fits in with Dave's lower range he can handle these days.
I know this'll never happen, but I think it'd be such a cool change-up and they could totally pull it off.
Well, just thought I'd throw that out to you guys/gals see what ya thought….

Damn right, that is an excellent idea. Maybe even just a short accoustic set as a change of pace. Zeppelin did it, why not VH.

I always enjoyed these kind of off the wall tunes. Big Bad Bill, Coconut Grove, Black Sand, 79th & Sunset and Tin Cup Chalice, are some of my favorites.

VH could really do something special, and include Take Your Whiskey Home as well. Maybe even a small part of You and Yer Blues, then rip into the regular electric version. And bring the harmonica back for The Full Bug.

They should have done this years ago during their prime. Have a nice little sit down jam session on acoustic. Bar stools and stories, just for a short breather in their shows.

I'm sure some will disagree, but I think in a few years (if they are still touring), they will need to change things up a bit. I think they started already by playing "Women in Love".

Let's face it. 65 years old and singing "Hot For Teacher"? At some point it will look stupid. KISS can do it with their makeup...but not sure if VH will be able to.

With that said, throwing "Could this be Magic" into a live show would be perfect, and a good strategy.

Let's face it, some songs they will have to play for ever (RWTD, ATBL, Jump,EWS)...but bringing old stuff like CTBM (and "Women in Love") will make a great transition to the aging band (and audience). Let's face it, the audience was pretty lame this past tour. Dave had twice the energy as the audience.
    Right here I say....

GREAT idea! I'm always wanting to see them pull out something they never played live before... this one would fit the bill. I liked how Mike played the quick melody from this song on the 82 bass solo

sit down jam would be cool and go into a little blues section of the night w some of the others mentioned (whisky, full bug, etc)

It was silly to sing Hot for Teacher when they wrote it then, by that logic. They were all about 30 years old when that song was written, so singing it when they are 65 is about the same, IMO. Singing about being ditched for some lesbian action isn't exactly age appropriate either

I think we all agree that we would love to hear some more deep cuts, but those tunes were pretty poorly received on this last tour. When they played The Full Bug at the concert I attended, the rest of the audience was looking around like "hmmm...I didn't hear this one on the radio in the last decade, so...."

    I'd love to see:
    - In a Simple Rhyme
    - Stay Frosty
    - Feel Your Love Tonight
    - Light Up the Sky
    - Sinner's Swing
    - Drop Dead Legs
    - Top Jimmy

....and I'd like to see them all before Could This Be Magic, but that's just me.

Feel Your Love Tonight is played on my local clasic rock station pretty frequently. I don't that one is as obscure as the others, in fact, I think it would be a perfect song for them to roll out next time around.

"FYLT" is one of VH's most underrated songs. Great guitar riff and some of their best harmonies ever ...

"If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving is not for you"

That and On Fire are the only two songs from VH I that haven't been played live since Dave rejoined the band. Heck, all VH I songs save for those two were played on their tour in 2007.

There's no doubt they've had the best set lists in their history (well, if you're a Dave fan, that is ) these last two tours, but we wouldn't be fans if we didn't still want more!

well, sure, but my original post wasn't really about what deep cut i'd like to see them play live. it was more about subbing "could this be magic" for "dave's solo/ice cream man" that they've been doing forever. it's a song that dave could still pull off vocally no problem. and it'd be cool to see him and Ed just on the dual guitars, singing this tune. (but i agree with some of your deep cuts, especially "in a simple rhyme")
