    Default '96 VMA backstage interview

Anyone know if any footage is out there of the backstage VH interview at the '96 VMA's? I've only seen little snippets and still photos, but I've never been able to find any video. I was always curious to see what was said...

Ah yes. 1996. As Midnight Phil said, "The year Van Halen shot itself in the foot, with a bazooka". Possibly the worst and best year of Van Halen all wrapped up into one. Best because of Me Wise Magic...worst because of the ugly stuff with Dave and Sammy.

Man...I remember that like it was yesterday.

So let me get this straight the best year for VH was 96 because MWM came out? So that song is better than anything the band has done before like maybe conquer the world in 84

Such high hopes for a DLR Reunion during that time. And I mean more than just the 2 songs.

I don't believe there's any footage of that out there, but there is a dramatic reenactment starring Edward and Alex Van Halen.

    Interesting question...

Of course it wasn't the best thing they'd ever done... but certainly the best thing they'd done in 12 years.

No footage exists that I know of. This is all you really need to know anyway:

Ed's underhanded trickery of all parties involved cannot be disputed.

    I've seen the interviews, there's 2 actually
in one there is all the stuff about the hip replacement and there is another one where they say they have to do an album or an ep first and then tour.

I really liked the direction they were going at that time with Balance/ Humans Being/ Best of tracks. I guess they say band tensions can lead to some good material, which may have been the case. It just sucks because they left so much on the table then, when they were still considered a "current" band.

    "It was magic" - Mike

    "Baby steps" - Ed

"We need to record first, then tour" - Ed

"I'm ready to go" - DLR

That's all I remember from it.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I like MWM. Love Dave's baritone speak on the verses, but I didn't care for the chorus and the yeah yeahs. For me, the two new tracks on the Best of were wasted, as they should have been on the next Van Hagar album. Still, I like the song and love Ed's solo.

Dude, the chorus in MWM is fantastic!
