    Default ABBA!!!

I've searched, and can't find a thread devoted to ABBA?!?! (Mods, please feel free to merge, if there is one).

I felt compelled to start this thread, based on the fact that the elusive AGNETHA FALTSKOG (the blonde one) performed live on stage for GB's yearly "Children In Need" campaign, last night, for the FIRST TIME IN 24 YEARS!!!

It has fuelled rumours that ABBA may well re-form next year (2014), to celebrate the 40th anniversary of "Waterloo", the Eurovision winning song that scored them their first chart-hit.

Fingers, toes, everything crossed! This would be the reunion to end all reunions, causing VH to pale into insignificance!!!

    "Reunion to end all reunions"?

Careful dear, that kind of language is subjective. Harpospoke will undoubtedly not approve.

For the record, I agree with you.

    It won't be the same

"He has a swaggering retro machismo that will give hives to the Steinem cabal" -Camille Paglia on Donald Trump

"Make way for the bad guy"- Tony Montana

'This hamburger don't need no helper"- David Lee Roth

"I wish Bon Jovi would've given me a call before he recorded all of his hits, because the lyrics would've been smarter, the melodies would've been much more smashing, and they would've sold a lot fewer records." -David Lee Roth

"My beef is people thinking Bon Jovi is good cuz they sold lots of records to housewives." -tango

"But being number one doesn’t really mean jack fuck all. We sold twice as many records as other records that year (1984) that landed in the Number One position." ~Eddie Van Halen

Not that I give a shit, but ABBA reforming would be the biggest reunion tour of all time.
A man could lose himself in a country like this.

I like Abba, but I just don't understand the adoration.

They have a LOT of crap tunes on those discs. Some great songs, but others that are just horrible.

In my opinion of course, mileage may vary.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

    Certainly does!

I have EVERY ABBA album, and I would categorically state that unlike virtually every other band / artist in history, there is little to no filler on any one of those records. Virtually every song is a well-crafted little piece of pop-art, and has chart-topping potential. In fact, some of my favourites by them are album tracks - they're irresistible and I LOVE 'EM!

Man, there are only about three or four songs I can stomach on their greatest hits album.

"Take a Chance on Me" is great, the rest, eh. Could go the rest of my life and not hear Dancing Queen, Super Trooper, Fernando and any of their other stuff.

Glad you like them, I just don't get the attraction.

    My favorite ABBA song ...

"It's so lonely at the top because it's so crowded at the bottom" - Diamond David Lee Roth

"If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving is not for you"

"Be careful what you wish for because you just might lose what you already have"

Forgot about SOS, I really like that tune as well. Probably neck and neck with Take a Chance on Me as my favorite of theirs.

That's the third one I like.

I just looked up their greatest hits track listing. Yep, out of 19 songs, I like three.

ABBA are the best pop songwriters of all time. Well IMO at least.

Unlike the pop artists of today who use outside writers, they were the writers.

Is their music revolutionary? No but its pure pop bliss. Favorite ABBA track was only a minor hit. It's the Name of the Game.
