Default If MA had gone with DLR to the EEAS Band would "The Inside" have appeared on 5150?

    1) If MA had gone with DLR to the EEAS Band would "The Inside" still have appeared on 5150?

    heh heh.

    2) Ok, my serious question is why didn't MA leave with Dave in 1985?

They got along fine. There seemed to be no love lost there.

They both liked to work and go on tour. (It's been suggested that the VH Bros were dragging their productive feet at the time... part of the reason Dave left.)

Seems when DAVE left... the VH band was up the creek without a paddle for a while... leaderless and without focus.

I'm surprised MA didn't follow the momentum DAVE had at the time... much like he followed Sammy 20 years later(although admittedly without nearly the momentum DLR had in 1985.)

The whole 'DAVE wants to just be a movie star' story... don't completely wash true considering the very musical EEAS album he put out.

That said... having MA play on EEAS is an interesting thought.

Lastly, if you'll pardon the metaphor, would that vacuum have finally sucked Sheehan to VH?

... Just something to discuss while things be goin' slow.

    Cheers,
    mrC (•̃͡ x •̃͡)y-~~

The shit I read on this site.

Michael Anthony never really cared for DLR, please point out once where Michael Anthony says "me and DLR were buds", if anything Mike really didn't like the guy by the time the 1984 tour came around. Dear God, where do you guys get this stuff?

I think his first words when meeting DLR back in the 70's was "get this fucking guy away from me" according to one of the VH books that have been published recently.

Mike felt that DLR treated everyone as less than him. And at that time, he almost assuredly did, his ego was bigger than the moon. Why go be a hired hand to a guy you don't really care for with an uncertain future?

DLR left the band because he thought he was going to be a huge star, a modern Frank Sinatra, starring in movies and putting out hit records. The friction between him and the band just made the decision easier.

Everything else is just revisionist history in my opinion. He QUIT, and from all accounts, Ed and Al were pretty upset when DLR quit, if they didn't want him around they would have sighed with relief, not been bitter at the guy for twenty years.

    DD is 150% right.

Mike was a never a big Dave guy. He was pretty vocal about things when Dave left.

Sam and Mike were friends and they stayed friends after everything fell apart in 96.

It was very much Dave versus Ed, Al and mike when the band split in 86.

Dave almost never refers to MA by name, from what I've read anyways. He gets called " the bass player"......

Aside from all of the valid points DD made, you are assuming Dave would have wanted MA and MA had the option to join, which is flawed thinking IMO.

With Eddie always wanting to replace him and Dave driving him crazy, how the hell did Mike last in VH all those years?

Funny thing is, Dave was the one who was against replacing him. From what I've read anyway. These days Dave and Mike speak well of each other in interviews.

"I wish Bon Jovi would've given me a call before he recorded all of his hits, because the lyrics would've been smarter, the melodies would've been much more smashing, and they would've sold a lot fewer records." -David Lee Roth

"My beef is people thinking Bon Jovi is good cuz they sold lots of records to housewives." -tango

"But being number one doesn’t really mean jack fuck all. We sold twice as many records as other records that year (1984) that landed in the Number One position." ~Eddie Van Halen

The most surprising thing that happened since Dave re-joined in 2007 was him saying that he misses Mike's presence.

The DLR of 2007-Present is much different from the egomaniac asshole of 1980-2006 (roughly).

It sounds like Dave has grown up and finally appreciates Mike for the valuable asset he was to Van Halen and their overall sound. If only Ed would do the same ...

I don't think it's a matter of Dave "growing up" at all. It's simple reality that Dave needs a "crutch" singing a decent number of VH's tunes now.

The fact that Mike's vox could cover much of Dave's vocal shortcomings even back in 1982 - 1984 and would have made a huge difference during the 2012 tour is probably the key thing. There's no question Dave knew he sounded bad on a majority of those shows and I'm sure he knows going forward it's only going to get tougher as he gets older. They didn't play songs like "Light Up The Sky" and "As Is" simply because Dave couldn't sing them. What will they have to drop the next tour (if there is one) because Dave can't hack the tunes?

Wolfgang has proven himself to be a great bass player in the band but he does not bring the vox or the onstage energy that Mike did - the two key things that Roth is now lacking.

MA never said a bad word about Dave from a professional/musical standpoint. And the reverse is true, I think.

MA didn't really care for Dave on a personal level. I think there was also an issue of Dave telling everyone else in the band what they had to wear on stage - both Mike and Ed were complaining about this in the late 80s.

I read a MA interview where he said he went to DLR's dressing room during the Sam and Dave tour and ripped him a new one for fucking things up with the 2001 sessions and for being a dick about not sharing the stage with he and Hagar.

Mike must have had some love for the original band because he also said that when they reconvened in 1996, his reaction was "son of a bitch; theres the classic sound!"
