Default Is Kenny Aronoff A Great?

By that I'm asking if he's one of the greatest artists in rock.

Given his extremely extensive list of tunes he's played on, my answer is a definate "YES!"

    http://kennyaronoff.com/about/discography

He's played on just about everything you hear on the radio.

What prompted me was the fact that the last several times I've watched something on Palladia, Kenny was on drums. What an amazing guy.

Well, you could compare him and Reb Beach. Both have a rather big studio session player background. BUT, no one will consider them "one of the greatest artists in rock". I chose to compare Reb Beach because he has written and performed more than Kenny and has some notoriety with Winger, Dokken and Whitesnake. But, he is nowhere near the top tier of the greatest artists in rock.
    Just go for it!

    great resume. talented drummer.

I just cant into his style of playing. He plays the hi hat on the left side with his left hand. I don't like that. lol.

but he is good. Played with everybody.

Well he's certainly got a résumé that would impress anybody that's for sure. So that obviously shows that he's one hell of a drummer.

But in terms of feel and power? He doesn't come close to Chad and other drummers in the biz.

That's the one thing that made me never quite warm to him being in CF. his playing was so rigid and devoid of feeling.

To this day I maintain that Joes touring drummer at the time, Jeff Campitelli should have been Chads fill in. The guys not a well known name but he's a beast monster behind the kit.

He's an excellent session man. Not a rock "great."

And there's nothing wrong at all with being an excellent session musician.

He was great before he got mixed up with the Sam/Van Halen crowd. From that point on he became a victim of the -vs- phenomenon that goes on here.

Kenny is a great drummer but not a "great" drummer.

He is at best a footnote in the History of Rock. Yes he has played on great songs but those songs are far more remembered for who was singing than who was on the drums.

In the land of great drummers the man with 4 hands is king.

I dunno, he's a session guy to me that just happened to go out on tour with CF a few years back.

Off the top of my head I couldn't tell you anything he's actually played on without looking it up.

technically he's very good I guess, he seems like a good dude.

is he a great? I dunno...I can only name about 5 great drummers and he doesn't pop in my mind right off the bat.

They should have gone for Vinnie Colaiuta - a phenomenal drumming talent.
