Default The all new, all purpose "I'm going to the gym" thread

I've been working out for along time.

I was supposed to compete in a physique contest back in the day but pulled out (cause I got really sick), I've trained with top level power lifters, bodybuildiers and some fitness models (way back when I was in my 20's).

I love it. I've tried so many different things. I figured I'd fire up a thread on the links and see what happens.

so how many of you guys (and gals) are "training" and what are you currently doing diet wise and exercise program wise?

    go!

ugh.....there must be something in the air....after having gone thru a terrible couple of years, I've found that I have not dedicated any time at all to taking care of myself and I'm feeling the results. I really need to do something.

I want to take a yoga class again or perhaps pilates..something easy on the joints but the options are rather slim here in Greater Goose Poop, so perhaps I'll start off with a DVD

I'm with you, Daisy. Due to work stress I've done close to nothing active for the past few years, and it caught up to me. In July I decided to make a change, and it's been good so far. I cut out all refined sugar and most starches. Dropped a lot of weight. I feel ready to start being active. I love to run, and I'm going to get back into it. I'm going to sign up for a 5k or 10k so I have a deadline and don't lose focus.

I completed my first Tough Mudder last February and have signed up for next year's event.

If you haven't heard of it, it's a 10 to 12-mile obstacle course designed by British Special Forces (stuff like electro-shock, diving into ice water, wall climbs, jumping over fire).

So my workouts are just whatever I want - from running to jumping rope to biking, and from free weights to climbing trees to playing on the neighborhood jungle gym. But it's six days a week. I take Sunday off.

My routine for the past 25 years has been 4-5 days a week with weights and one night a week on the ice playing hockey. Pretty intense skate for a solid hour-hour and a half. When hockey is off from May-August I substitute it with mountain biking.

I eat fast food twice a day, smoke two packs of cigarettes a day, sleep about 4-5 hours per night, work 30 hours a week and I'm a full-time college student. I bought a treadmill in January and it sits alone and waits patiently. I'm 43 and I imagine this is what 63 feels like. But my BP is in check, the A1C is getting better, and any day now, I just know 50 pounds is going to melt away because I often watch fitness infomercials and visualize greatness.

There are two sergeants who do T-25 on the loading dock at my work every day. They completely swear by it. They both used to do P90X and Insanity, but they switched to T-25. Each workout is only 25 minutes.

You can find out about it at http://www.beachbody.com/product/fit...t25-workout.do.

I have a fairly varied routine...

    - Monday, chest and back; usually 4-5 exercises per body part, with 3 sets of 8-12 reps (all exercises, including those below)
    - Tuesday, bicepts/triceps with 1/2 hour of cardio
    - Wednesday; off
    - Thursday; shoulders and 1 hr of yoga (exclusively stretching focused)
    - Friday; legs and one hour of spinning

    - abs done every day.

I'm usually in the gym 1 1/2 hours per day.... It's truly a time where I can be completely selfish...I find I really need it

I got a mysterious somewhat scary virus about a year and a half ago and decided it was time to Improve my overall health. First thing I did was buy a high speed blender and started 'blasting' all kinds of veggies and fruits every morning - before this I never ate much breakfast. I can't tell you how much better I felt within a month. I've never been a gym rat and never will but I do use resistance bands to work out and I have a stair master for cardio. I'm 43 and I've never felt this good in my life. Kale - it's your new friend with benefits

I roll up with basic push ups and sit ups everyday. And I mix in some beer ups to keep the body tuned proper. Beer is good and so is working out. Out.

DH. I assume you got kids and what have you. Just take 30 or even 15 minutes a day to do something. Just a little of something. From MY little one bedroom apartment I made 40 million dollars with just ONE tiny ad. Out.

There's a gym in the building I work at. I try to go there every day. 2-3 days I do weights and try to cover the basics - chest, arms, shoulders, legs, and sometimes back. The other days I do cardio machines or take a cardio class. Then at home 2-3 times a week I run 1-2 miles a time.

Typing all that, I should be a slim mutha' fucka', but my problem is portion control. Damn you food...

so do you guys that lift weights do the ole "3 movements, 3 sets each for 8-15 reps" for a bodypart?

I've got some very different opinions on what most people should be doing when lifting weights, especially if you are looking to get bigger and stronger.
