Default DH vs No DH - the Links Poll

What should MLB do with the DH?

    1) scrap it completely
    2) have the DH in both the AL and NL
    3) Leave it as it is (DH only in the AL)

    Down with the DH.

I voted no DH, but I fully realize it will never be removed from the AL. So living in reality, I would favor #2 where it stays as is.

The thing with the DH is that it will never go away because there are hangers on who can extend their careers by DHing and get paid handsomely to do so. The Players Association will never give up that money or those spots.

However the DH is just bad baseball. It removes significant amounts of strategy:

    - Do you pinch hit?
    - Do you bunt?
    - Do you pull the pitcher even though his spot is due next inning?
    - If so, do you double switch? And if so, what position player that's good enough to start is now not good enough to finish?
    - Do you pull an effective pitcher to pinch hit when you're only trailing by a couple of runs? Just look at the Dodgers who pulled Greinke and Kershaw in their first starts in the NLCS earlier in the game because they needed runs.

Because of the ripple effect, it forces teams to have a more complete roster to be successful. Role players become far more important. Managers become more important. Pitchers become more important. Quality pinch hitters (a difficult art) become more important.

The DH is for 8 year olds and chicks who dig the long ball and lots of runs at the expense of strategy. Besides, as others have pointed out in the MLB Thread, when a pitcher does something unexpected, it is very memorable.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

having a blind man play point guard for all nba teams would also make for the odd unexpected memorable event too. That doesn't make it a good idea.

It makes no sense that each league is different but I like it that way.
    .
    .
    .
VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.
