You're gonna need a keyboard that has black and white keys. Next, hit those buttons located to the right, and hit patch number 61.

    Hope this helps!

Casio - strings ensemble mode. I've been playing jump for years on my old Casio keyboard.

I thought Ed ran his board through his old Marshall amp and that was a big part of the "Jump" sound. Could be wrong.

Seriously now No really, you just need a subtractive synth which is 98% of the market. Great modelling synths that are inexpensive are the Korg Microkorg, and if you're looking around CL or Ebay, then the Roland SH-201.
Right out of the box, the Korgs just sound fatter and much more analog.
The Roland can get you the VH Jump sound quicker, and I believe has a little more polyphany if memory serves (Microkorg has 4 voices, and has smaller keys) but it can just sound a bit thin and more aggressive than the Korg's smoother more analog sounding oscillators.

Microkorgs new are around $399 to $500.
Sh-201's go from $200 to $300 on CL typically.

He did that for the lead synth in I'll Wait but I beleive it was actually a GK keyboard amp. The areggiated bass lines we're through the board.
He did play ATCWR through Marshalls with the Wurlitzer, as well as SAITP with the little Electro Harmonix.

Not saying this to be a smart ass, but most keyboards have a factory preset "Jump" setting.

Or if they are worried about infringement, it might be called the "I might as well jump" setting or "back against the record machine".

One guy I play with, his guitar pedal settings that came from the factory include settings like "You Really Got Ed"..."Hey Jimi"..."Stairway to Jimmy"..."Enter the Hetfield"...etc.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Yeah...I mean Oberheim called it Brass Ensemble or something..Sorry...It's been years and can't remember the exact name. Yes, most modern synths come with a similar preset, usually calling it a "Brass" patch, but honestly most fall short. They often lack the degree of filtering quality, LFO and portamento controls that come close. The Oberheim one is actually pretty complex to nail. It's pretty hard to get bang on in the Korg engine, but the SH-201 is very easy to get in the ball park much faster. One thing is the SH-201 doesn't have the multi funcion menus that you have to navigate through, so it's much more real time. The Korgs have great modelling though, and sound far more "analog" and warm than the 201 without having to do a lot of EQ tweaks to warm it up.
There's give and take with every synth, just like any other instrument.

I have a Yamaha CS2X and it has a sound called Jump!. Basically, the Jump sound it just a square lead sound...it's actually quite generic. See Dave's Dreidel's comments.
