I guess it's purpose was to shock Marty back to reality, and recognize the damage he's taking part
    in inflicting.
    Same with losing his daughter.
Marty is no longer comfortable being who he became, while his wife is all in.

But the Mason character, ended up really poorly written.
Even his reunion with the baby, when he became annoyed with the baby, it seemed
like a "just throw that in there, too."

Then you have Darlene completely dominating Jacob, by season's end.

Not sure how all this can be missed.
    Meh...still don't see it.

Marty and Wendy both take turns doing what they want without consulting the other. They even had one of the best lines because of that.

Both of them did it. I thought it was awesome.

Ruth's dad was dominating her and then of course....got a pay day and met his fate. They wanted him out of town because he was a problem for her. Marty got the CIA guy off her and Wendy got her dad off her.

Jacob was running the show for the Snells. They were fighting about it, but ultimately he was in charge. Which is why she did what she did.

Between Charlotte and Jonah, he was easily the smarter one who was far less annoying.

I thought it was well balanced really.

They are going to do a "sequel" to Designing Women. I thought it was weird when this first was announced as a reboot because it sounded like reboot but no Dixie Carter and no Meshach Taylor= no Designing Women in my opinion.

Annie Potts is on Sheldon and Jean Smart is super busy but Delta Burke is pretty much retired at this point, Hooks has sadly passed as has Alice Ghostley , Julia Duffy and Judith Ivey were basically on in an "asterisk year" when DW was no longer really DW so I'm not sure that any of the old crew would be available

So a complete sequel would make sense. I was a huge fan of that show, so I am hoping that Bloodsworth Thompson doesnt fuck this up

kind of an interesting thing that she is bringing this back after her "dance on your grave" op ed that she wrote about Les Moonves in the Hollywood reporter.

I watched the first episode of Jim Carrey's new show Kidding. Looking forward to seeing more. It is a dark comedy. If you like shows like Baskets or Atlanta, I think you'll like this.

I usually don't let my contempt for a person change my consumption of their art product, but Jim Carrey is an exception. Can't stand that fucker.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

We are talking about how it ended. Of course males had control/power when it started and was moving on but as it ended, the XX'ers are running shit

    Wendy overruled Marty
    Darlene overruled Jacob
Ruth overruled her dad by going to Marty's
Wendy then pushed her solely on their side by calling up Jane Lynch
Jane Lynch respects Wendy and is trying to mentor her. Marty to her is just a lacky
Charles Wilkes is now somewhat blackmailed by Wendy

The only weak woman is the owner of the Blue Cat. Anyway its not done in an annoying way as TLJ but the focal point at the end of Season 2 is that women are in control. Not episode 1 of Season 2

I like him, but I'm having a hard time buying him as some kind of host for a children's show. He...kinda looks creepy these days. What kids would watch his show? Reminds me of Natalie Portman's character in Black Swan. Who would pick her to be the lead in a ballet? She looked like she was about to panic at all times.

I think you are putting too much into it. Killing a guy to get in charge is one way to be "in control" I guess. I thought all the character male and female were done very well. We could count "weak characters" if we want. That would put the annoying drama queen daughter on the "weak" pile too. Marty had to save not one, but three female characters. (Wendy, Ruth, and Rachel) He doesn't seem to be under anyone's thumb to me.

Yes and it's GREAT. I really like Bill Hader. After Skeleton twins in 2014 and Trainwreck in 2015 I thought he was going to be the next generation Tom Hanks. He could handle comedy, drama, dramedy, rom com....but then......not so much happened. He worked a lot since but it was a lot of voice over work and TV. I guess directors didn't see in him the same qualities I saw.

Barry is a big ol showcase for his ability and he is great in it.

Watching a documentary about Norman Lear brought up some stuff that I had never thought of
did a little digging about Good Times
For starters, Lawrence Fishburne was originally cast as the youngest son Michael in Good TImes. Yes, Lawrence Fishburne was a child actor!

Also Esther Rolle was old enough to be the mother of John Amos who played her husband as well as the actress who played her best friend. and Jimmie Walker was only 7 years younger than him!

And I had forgotten that BOTH Esther Rolle and John Amos left the show because they were disturbed by how Jimmy Walker was portraying a young black person and becoming a role model. Esther only came back for the last season when she was assured they would change his character and make him more mature and less of a buffoon.
