I think I want to crack open a Red Stripe and relax with my sweetheart on a little down island getaway. I love the song and the vibe it sends. Nice duet with Nancy Wilson.

Oops! Just posted the same thing in an established thread... imagine that.

Think I'll leave it there and make it my last post in the Sam forums. Time to start winding down and start packing up around here.

Did I miss something? I didn't hear much in terms of verses. Sounds good otherwise though.

Not bad, sounds a bit repetitive though. This one could of been on Living it up.

The song was written to sell rum.

Sam didn't normally talk about sugar cane and a belly full of rum.

As I've said a zillion times before, I don't mind that Sam has other business ventures...but when the business ventures inspire the lyrics of a song, it's a little, I don't know...obvious and dirty.

He's selling a lifestyle. I get it....this record isn't sticking at all with me, and I'm just disasppointed.

I know that's just your opinion but...

I've heard the song but I guess I hit the skip button before the final verse played.

"All we need is an island....BUY MY FUCKING RUM OR I WILL MAKE YOU EAT MY FUCKIN LITTLE RED WORM!!!!"

If a song makes you want to buy a bottle of rum and pour yourself a drink, then that means the song evoked an emotion out of you. Thats a special thing, imo.

Whether its intentional or not makes no difference to me. It's my choice whether I want to open my wallet.

On a side note I did cringe when, in Margaritaville, he sang, "Wastin away again in Waboritaville". Sorry Sam. You just don't fuck with the words to that song. I know he and Jimmy are buddies so its all in good fun but...just....no.

True. I know Sam has a nice pad in Maui, and I'm happy for him. But I don't think it's a great topic for a song.

If you want a good "island" record, get David Gilmour's "On An Island." Now THAT's a good, laid-back set of songs.

Sam is a rocker, and always will be. He can do blues, slide guitar stuff. But when it's too laid-back, happy music - he's not playing to his strength.

"That's just like your opinion, man." The Dude...

Just a bit of humor. All artists are selling a lifestyle: grunge, metal, hip-hop, thug life, the beach, whatever.
