one of those covers will sell more copies in America. That ain't bias. That's capitalism.

And "everywhere else" doesn't give a fuck about college athletes getting paid.

I just find it slightly bewildering that an article about the prospective salaries of college athletes is considered 'bigger' news than the war in Syria (according to American Time Magazine).

Because quite frankly, Americans are sick of hearing about the problems in shithole countries. Also, it would mean they would have to talk about Obama.

Although you have kind of made it YOUR problem too, have you not? You know, by getting involved and stuff..?

I have no say in the matter to get involved nor does Time magazine.

Perhaps not...But then, I wouldn't have thought that either you or Time Magazine has much say in whether college athletes are awarded salaries or not! Curiously, however, that was still considered more newsworthy than a war which has the potential to affect the entire world (unless you're a reader of American Time Magazine, it seems...)

Football sells more than Syria in the States.

This has nothing to do with "media bias." It's catering to the public. We should stop pointing the finger at "media" and start pointing it at people.

Sorry - I have to side w/ dibblekins on this...largely because I'm trying desperately to marry her - however secondarily because it's chemical weapons and the world.

Just like the UK news mag will sell more copies with David Beckham as the cover store than David Cameron. Same thing would happen here - the news magazine with a cover story on Sidney Crosby will sell more copies than the one with our PM on it.

That's why there is no "bewilderment" to me. If there was a two hour special "Top Gear" on the tv on one channel and a two hour special report on the Syrian crisis on another and there were national implications involved, guess which one would be tuned in on in this household? Especially if a little boy was staying that night. Syrian crisis be DAMNED! We then wonder why our priorities are out of whack.

There is no "conspiracy" here. Though Time certainly has an editorial position, this is actually a well-placed, well-timed topic that people in the US can get fired up about without getting bogged down trying to sort out a geopolitical mess that technically dates to 632 AD.

That being said, I had a subscription to Time in 2008, and Time practically masturbated to Obama's inauguration and first term. It is definitely more left than right, in general, and I'm sure editorial decisions are affected by it.

If bias is present, I guess my reaction is "So what?" I can do the five minutes of research it takes to determine if anything more pressing than college football is going on in the world.

And it's not as if Time hasn't been covering the situation in Syria.

I don't think that tells our priorities are out of whack. I don't even like cars and I'd rather watch the Top Gear special.

I also think people feel hopeless and that they have no control anyway.

Kind of irrelevant what the main photo or story on the magazine is. The point is the U.S. media is so disgustingly biased in Obama's favor that Syria and the fact that the rest of the world thinks he's a horses ass was gonna be a sub-story no matter what.
