Default Great idea for Sammy & Mike (and us)

Chickenfoot did great given the state of music today. Gold in 2009 is probably like multi-platinum in the mid-2000s and before. Went #4 on the charts. CFIII went #9. That means that that was statistically Sammy's most successful album outside of VH, no?

With that being said, obviously they--especially Sam--are getting old. Chad is making it hard for them to put out music as often as they would like I'm sure. Mikey probably doesn't want to sit around for this long, especially after everything he dealt with with VH.

Also, Chickenfoot still has yet to play any Halen. We only get to hear Van Hagar through the Wabo's, not that they don't do a good job, but that's only assuming you live in one of the 14 cities he plays to nowadays for some reason. When I drove to Detroit this summer, that was the first time I heard a Van Hagar song since 2006's Other Half/Livin' It Up Tour. That's a fuckin' sin.

So, what if Sammy, Mike, and Satch--all three big names (especially Sam and Joe), just put out albums then tour as HAGAR/SATRIANI/ANTHONY or some monicker along those lines? I'm sure the crowd they draw would be the equivalent of Chickenfoot's, which isn't that big anyways.

Then, they do whatever they want whenever they want. They can play Chickenfoot, Van Halen, Sammy solo, Montrose, they can jam some Satriani instrumentals together with The Red Rocker on guitar. Don't Joe and Sam write all the music anyways?

And when Chad's available, they can record/tour as The Foot.

I still say Joe should try to lure Jeff Campitelli (his regular solo drummer) away from whatever he is doing to tour with the Foot. He's a much better fit than Kenny was.

I love Bro Lauser but he's not on the same level.

I would love to see Sammy and Mikey go out as the Other Half, with Satch on guitar and either David Lauser or Matt Sorum on drums. There are a lot of us Van Hagar fans that would love to hear the gems from that era.

Two new ideas (although my original posted one was the best):

1.) Sam says he's going to continue doing a "Sammy & Friends" every solo album from here on out. Why not do like the opposite of what everybody else does--the all-star album VH was going to do before they got Sammy in '85/what Santana and Slash did--and do an album with great bands and he sings on all of the songs?

Like write 1 song with GNR, The Crue, Queen, etc. and sing on them. If, like Motley, they have singer, they can both sing. Shit, even throw some grunge in there, like AIC.

And that got me thinking even greater idea:

2.) How about, like Coverdale/Page, Hagar/Page? But with Mikey, too. Throw in Bonham's son on drums. It would be a combo of the 2 best hard rock bands of all-time. Coverdale/Page was a heck on an album--can you image the much better Sammy with the addition of Mike doing an album or two like that with Jimmy Page? How amazing that would be? Fuck, if he did an album with Coverdale I'm sure he'd do one with Sammy and Mike. Van Halen's a tad bigger and more prestigous than Whitesnake (as much as I love 'em).

I gotta get a gig being his manager or something...this is gold, baby.

I say they do the "Other Half" like a reality show. Get a bunch of no name young guns to come out and try out for the parts of Ed and Al and then do a tour of VHs Hagar Years. Make it a celebration...some young kids that can really bring the energy of those songs back....even the VH versions of "One Way to Rock" & "Rock N Roll" Make it a party.

....or shit, give Al and Ed a call and see if they want to do a PROPER VH Sammy reunion tour one last time to end it on good vibes.

How about the Other Half with Denny Carmassi on drums? Perhaps Steve Vai on guitar?

Dude, just put that in your sig. haha. It would save you from typing it so much.

Vai would never do that. He's towards the end of a 250 show tour and he's going to actually take a break. Probably do some orchestra work and start writing a new solo album. He and his band are tight, meaning, Vai is not going to do something he doesn't want to do anymore...he doesn't have to go that route. BUT, it would be cool to see a couple shows with Vai, Sheehan, Bissonette and Roth.

I would say Sammy has a better chance of getting Paul Gilbert to do any sort of "Other Half" stuff.
    Just go for it!

I don't think it would happen anyway. The Other Half isn't known at all outside of us Redheads. It will continue to only be part of a Sammy show and nothing more.

I certainly love to play the "what if" games, but I'd really like them to just concentrate on Chikenfoot now.

It's a great band. It has its own personality. Just wait for Chad. Put out another album. Do a 25 city tour. Repeat.
