    Default Paint

Where does everyone get their paint from? Looking for the yellow and black. Gonna do an all yellow with black striped guitar.

I usually get my paint from auto zone although any hardware store (ace or aubochon) has good quality paint for guitar bodies.

Krylon Sun Yellow and Krylon Black will do the trick. Also Rustoleum is good as well...

But as 5150rob said most people will agree that automotive paint is the way to go for the best finish. If you are looking for a brand name Duplicolor is great

Is Duplicolor expensive? Plus what about clear?

I've had great results with Duplicolor. I don't think it was too expensive, $6 or $7 per can? They have a clear as well, though I haven't used it for guitars yet.

Duplicolor is the way to go as far as I'm concerned. It's an inexpensive, high-quality acrylic lacquer. Krylon used to be acrylic lacquer but then they changed to an acrylic enamel at some point and it's been known to peel off guitars in a huge sheet.

Lacquers work well for guitars because each coat will melt into the previous rather than forming layers. It's easy to work with and can be applied thinly.

Remember, too... Everybody goes freakin' nuts about nitrocellulose lacquer... Not all vintage finishes were nitro. A lot of them were acrylic lacquer.

For a body you can go with Musikraft, they got a one humbucker, one volume Charvel Style bodies in many wood species...

Try eBay but stay away from bodies made in China, the specs are usually off...

Remember if your using an open grain wood to fill the grain if your going for an opaque finish

Basswood is a closed-pore wood, so no.

You would have to grain fill for Ash or Mahogany.

FYI, not everybody grain fills their Ash bodies when making Frankensteins. I kinda like that sunken grain look myself.

If I remember correctly, though, the original B&Y was a pro finish on mahogany.

It states 4 to 6 weeks for a body. They must be joking, I will wait for Chris Locke to make me one quicker. There is one on eBay, just don't know if its any good

For my 5150 I used Reranch, but it was 15 bucks a can, so I wouldn't use that if you want to conserve money. Great paint, though.
