Well, always great to hear Dave, but that was a disappointment compared to the other two interviews he's done lately. Austin even asked some pointed questions about his and Ed's relationship right at the end, and Dave basically ran out the clock, not saying a damn thing of any substance.

He obviously doesn't want to broach the subject of relationships within the band. Not saying there's anything to it, but he just obfuscates on anything personal, which I do sort of understand. But I just wish he'd just flat-out tell interviewers something like "You know, the way we get along nowadays is that we keep personal things personal." I think everyone could accept that answer and move on.

It was more like the Dave interviews of old, rather than the ones he's done of late where he comes across more like a person in a conversation with friends. The difference between in-studio and doing a phoner.

Thanks for posting the link, though!

Yeah, Dave danced around that like his employment depended on it. Not as good as the other recent interviews, agreed.

    Well, two things:

Dave said he's working on a song about wrestling called Stompin Grounds...I hope it's with VH.

He totally avoided the Eddie question, and it was a good question from Stone Cold. In fact, it's been a while since I heard anyone ask Dave a direct question like that. He went way out of his way not to answer it, and by doing so answered the question.

He did not mean a literal song. He was explaining how things pop into his head. "So now we're writing the wrestling song,etc........."

Maybe it will be the next RAW theme song. They had Burn It To The Ground by Nickelback a couple years ago. Why not VH?

Dear Van Halen, please don't do a song for wrastling. Thanks.

Austin's roommate in college used to be my boss. (They both played football) He would go on and on about how nuts he was in college. My friend would bring a couple of girls to their room and Austin would be too busy watching "my wrestling tapes" in his room. My friend thought he was insane at the time....but later he said, "And one day my kid wants me to buy him a Stone Cold Steve Austin action figure...he knew what he was doing the whole time!"

Dave sometimes sounds a little insane himself. His laughing in this interview is just this side of creepy.

Avoiding a question usually comes off sounding suspicious. I would think Dave would know that given his knack for studying human behavior.

When Austin asked if he and Eddie were close for a second time, I think Roth answered him in a roundabout way.

He said (words to the effect of): "Consider the type of music. It's not the friendliest".

I took that to mean they could be professional and get the job done without being good friends.

It will never cease to amaze me why it matters to people whether or not Dave and Ed are friends or even get along. They seem to actually function and that's all that matters.

All the honest interviews on Podcasts Dave has done, we really have no reason to pick apart something Dave didn't want to answer. It's simply...Dave didn't want to answer it. Probably doesn't require reading between the lines.

It's like I tell the kids that I coach for soccer, you may not like a teammate but you have to respect them.

So Dave and Eddie may not be friends but if they can work together and get the best out of each other, then that is fine by me.

    Oy vey!

After all these years, band members STILL have to walk on eggshells when it comes to Ed. It's ok Ed, we all know your story by now. Let the people around you speak freely without repercussions.

That's what I took away also. Granted he was all over the dance floor but I caught two analogies he used.

Confidence... knowing who you are, your place as a rock star. There's 3 of them in VH. They've been around this their whole career. You can tell when something is fake among the stars on stage or just in the room.

Then he made a reference to being like a gang of Hells Angels or pirates... they will laugh heartily while they stab you.

I more or less netted all that down to... they accept and recognize who each other are in the realm of rock stars. They have a bond of brothers but it's more closely aligned with criminals and pirates... somewhat like a mutual respect among thieves and scoundrels.

In simple terms, they aren't friends and buddies but they coexist out of mutual respect to get the job done in the business they love.

Off-hand, I would say it has a lot to do with what happened in 1985.
