I think that is kind of silly too.

You can have an incredibly technically proficient solo, versus a solo that creates a beautiful sonic landscape that elicits true emotion from the listener. Which one is better is the true definition of subjective.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I think putting an instrumental guitar solo like Eruption up against a guitar solo from a song is so stupid.

They can't be compared nor can one say one is greater than the other since one is guitar on its own and the other is there to service the tone and mood of the song.

A solo like Eruption wouldn't belong in a song like Gently Weeps and vice versa, nobody would want to listen to an instrumental guitar solo if it was the solo from Gently Weeps.

    Stupid poll.

What a crock! I can't believe they got Crapton and Eddie duking it out when we all know the real championship solo is CC DeVille's solo from "Swallow This Live".

Agreed... Another silly Guitar World poll. I can remember when GW was a great magazine... What the hell happened???

Anywho, speaking of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", here is the demo version that George first came to the studio with to show the rest of the Beatles... This version is way better than the White Album version, IMHO... (Ironically, it doesnt have a guitar solo).

"For some reason people love to complain about everything. The internet has made it easy for people to do that. Shut the fuck up and get a life, or show me how good you can do it."- Edward Van Halen

"A lot of people ask me which Van Halen singer was better. You can't compare them. It's like asking which guitarist is better. Nobody is better than anybody. Every player is their own person."-Edward Van Halen

I agree it's a poor comparison. So, I'm on board. Having said that, Guitar World has always shown VH great support, so I'll always be willing to cut them some slack.

That's true of any two solos in my book. May as well vote on one.

Whatever effect they used on WMGGW, it made it sound out of tune to me. Couple that with the cultural impact of Eruption and it's not close for me.

Horrible comparison, but I'd take Princes solo at the end of it over Claptons.

At the end he does some magic where his Tele vanishes.
