    Default Growth

What are your opinions on this "song", or should I say, "riff"?

For those that don't know, Growth was a "hidden track" after In A Simple Rhyme(?) on WACF. I love it, and really wish they had turned it into something. It's a killer riff and could have become something awesome.

Didn't Eddy say it was originally supposed to be continued on their next record? They just forgot about it or decided against it.

    It is a killer riff.

Definitely. I was hoping they'd open ADKOT with it.

I loved "Bottoms Up" right after "Growth" at the US Fest. Went together perfectly.

one of the coolest things ever is on the 84 tour they'd play Growth after the 2nd encore leading into Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love. on the Montreal 84 boot you can see Ed and Mike on the respective sides of the stage "marching" from the middle to the sides of the stage with the drum beat. then they meet back in the middle with Dave and to the little 'hop' in unison with the start of Ain't Talkin'...up to the front of the stage.

way fucking cool in my opinion.

    That would've been really cool!!

    I've always dug this riff.

The song fades out on the LP - that's the version i grew up with.
Once CD's came out i was shocked to hear the rest of the song.
Even though it's only so many more seconds - was still wild!

I know ive heard the "Sammy & Eddie" version years ago.
Think Sammy and Eddie played it on guitars during a show right b4 "Ain't talkin bout love" on the 5150 tour.

It's perfect just the way it is. Sure it would be amazing to hear it developed into a song, but I kind of like they way they just forgot about it.

Growth should be a complete song on the next album in my opinion. It was cool, the radio stations here in SOCal near Las Vegas were playing Van Halen blocks before the concert date last May. When they played in a simple rhyme they would always play growth at the end.

If VH decides to kick out a new record, they should form something out of Growth. I've always wanted to see what they would have done with it, had they continued writing it.

Look how big that stage was, all the room they had up there. Damn.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

Listen near the end of that clip, Dave was such a liar. ha He said "we'll see you next year". Instead it was 23 years.
