Not that "The Green Mile" was lacking in any way. Shawshank is just a better movie and after watching you felt like you'd been there.

For the purposes of a movie? Shawshank. By a mile.

If I was in prison? The Green Mile.

Cause Tom Hanks is just so nice.

Not trying to sidetrack the thread but I just Wiki'd Shawshank Redemption and Im shocked that it only made 16 mil during its initial run and a total of 28 mil after its rerelease. Against a $25 mil budget!

It wasn't even profitable during its initial run. Has there ever been a more critically acclaimed, adored movie not to be profitable during its run?

Alright back to the thread topic.

The original Willie Wonka was made for 3 million dollars and barely made its money back in original release.

Cleopatra was the most expensive movie of the time..something like 45 million and only made something like 20 million

Citizen Kane was considered a box office flop as were It's a Wonderful Life and Vertigo

Wizard of Oz just broke even

Blade Runner, Big Lebowski and Office Space were all flops that now have cult followings
