Default Holbrook Guitars and Amplification's "Reggie" Introduction

Reggie is my tribute to the Black and White Franky sans stripes. most of the correct specs but something anyone can take out on the road and call it their own. little touches like the nick in the pick guard are my way of tipping my hat to the legend.
The relic work turned out exceptional on this one (REGG002). the artistic images don't show the aging of the paint but its very cool and plays fantastic!
A bit of background on the name. Eric (efraser68) and I have been collaborating on build designs for a couple years now. I've got 3 small dudes very close in age (Irish triplets) and they sort of look the same. Eric would come over and just call them all Reggie. "Reggie" is now the nick name for my boys and it seemed fit for this guitar design when we expanded from the Model A.

Check my site for specs and details.

Thx guys. The amp builds are matched to the guitars and calibrated using first record tone. Best way to ensure each of my builds are spot on. Eric plays a huge role in verifying each build and helping with awesome clips to get the word out.
    Glad you dig it!
    Cheers!!

Insane tone. I know what amp I'll be getting next. Is there a way to get that tone without blowing out my eardrums and windows?

check out the other clips on my site and you'll hear for yourself what it sounds like at home and in a club.

First off, yes, you can get killer tone at bedroom levels by slaving. requires a line level load and a power amp. you can use an attenuator as well but the slaved rig is what you hear in this clip. also serves as a nice effects loop to throw reverb in the mix.

Second, know that this rig does it all. I mean anything related to the old Marshall tone. definitely not a one trick pony. but i sought out to make them capable of getting this tone because its some of the most elusive ever. we know he dimed his amps so for me, a well built dimed plexi should sound like this. they're very sensitive to guitar construction and signal going to the first tube, so you can leave the amp dimed, and change guitars, roll off guitar volume, tone pot, change pick attack and get completely different tones.

Hey, YMI5150?, what tubes do you generally like to use in your amp builds? You putting 6CA7s in the power section like Eddie did? What preamp tubes do you like?

yes, I use EHX fat bottles stock and will search for NOS Sylvanias upon request. no need to match.
preamp tubes are NOS almost all the time. Certain tubes are slightly better in V1 but it all depends on the overall tone of each build. Same with pickups, gotta know what to tweak to the final build to get it perfect.

Ever use the JJ 6CA7s? I hear a lot of people like them more than the EHX.

I'm finding that the EHX 12ax7 is a very flat sounding tube. What would you recommend for a nice EVH style midrange push with a good top end?

I'm using nothing but JJ preamp tubes now. I still use NOS Phillips EL-34's, but I've had some connection issues with EHX 12ax7's on several amps. I'm not sure if it's a common problem, or I just got a bad batch, but it almost looks like the legs are a little thin. I've had them cut in and out and fade with vibration. I've cleaned the sockets on the amps, and one of them is a newer Vox, and it'll cut out on that one too. Switched to the JJ, or even some GT's (Which I don't like) and they're fine.I even thought maybe the legs were bent, so straightened them, and still the same problem.
Don't know what to think. Other than that, they sound pretty decent when they're not popping and fading in the amp!.

Definitely an odd problem. I haven't run into that myself on either amp that I've run the 12AX7EH in. I'm just not a fan of the tone in produces. I looked at back at the notes I wrote up about the different tubes I tried in another amp (http://www.harmonycentral.com/t5/Ele...32568#M3234642) and I seemed to think of the tube as dead sounding then, too.

Once my paycheck hits the bank account I think I'm going to order a JJ 6CA7 and try it out in my new Jet City Picovalve.
