Default A couple of films that look interesting...

"CBGB" - my associates and I didn't quite understand what was going on at the time, and by the time I got to college and my roommate tried to bring me up to speed, most of those bands had either gotten big or were gone. Still, I wish he'd taken me someplace like CBGBs.

"Muscle Shoals" - a documentary. Strange as I see no mention of Bob Seger, though, as about half of those classic Bob Seger And The Silver Bullet Band albums were really Bob Seger And The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section". Maybe he chose not to participate. Plenty of other artists on hand to tell a good story, it should seem, though.

P.S. - if you see them first, don't tell us how they end!

The CBGB's flick is supposedly decent, mostly due to Alan Rickman as the CBGB owner.

All accounts indicate it's be like most other rock biopics where it's constantly distracting seeing some actor who isn't a perfect fit for the character playing real life musicians. Of all the bands, only The Ramones get more than a few lines worth of screen time and all the music for the live performances are the original studio versions with crowd noise behind them.

Just from the trailer, the actor playing Sting is a total fail. Taylor Hawkins from The Foo Fighters is playing Iggy Pop and he at least has some of the attitude down. I kind of knew Stiv Bator (who died in '90) from The Dead Boys back in the mid 80's and I can say firsthand the actor playing him is far too clean cut - Stiv was skinny as a rail and uglier than Lemmy. Plus, Stiv was from Detroit and didn't have an English accent like this guy seems to be sporting.

I won't bother seeing it in a theater, I'll wait for it to come out on Blu-ray for a night's rental.
