I remember reading an interview with Ed where he said he would never work with another producer again since he had such an awesome relationship with Ballard. Didn't both Sammy and Dave have a problem dealing with the fact that Ed wanted Glen to have a big role in songwriting? What happened? I don't think Ballard is in the picture now is he?

I keep thinking he died, or am I confusing him with Bruce Fairbairn?

Yeah, it's Fairburn that died, not Ballard. I'd love to see them work with Ballard, I thought the Best Of tunes were very well done.

I know that Glen Ballard is currently working with Dave Matthews Band on their new album.

I don't mind him producin' as long as he doesn't have Dave tryin' to sing cheesey lyrics by somebody else.

I remember Ed saying one of the problems he had with Sammy was the fact Sam refused to sing anyone else's lyrics. I think Dave had the same problem during the "Best of" sessions. Ed has stated that since he got sober, he's had a problem with some of the lyrical content. I say "WHO CARES!!!" Not every song has to unlock the secret of life.

Right on! Naturallywired. It's not a knock against the band, but when it comes to socially conscience lyrics I don't think of Van Halen. There's plenty of other artist who fill that void adequately. I look for hard rockin' tunes with a little bit of Dave or Sammy jibberish, to flesh things out a bit. I found the the lyrics on VH3 to be pretentious and overly contrived.
