Default Why Hasn't Dave Ever Gone the Supergroup Route?

Okay, in fairness, the EEAS band was a supergroup, but Vai and Sheehan were up-and-comers and not even close to "legendary" status yet, so I have a hard time calling them a supergroup.

We know Sam has done Chickenfoot and HSAS, it surprises me that Dave hasn't teamed up with a bunch of guys and formed a new band. Let's hypothetically say Dave is no longer a part of Van Halen, and he's planning a new tour. I think we'd all hate to see him bring out the VH cover band again.

And let's face it, the solo albums have left a lot to be desired since '91.

Sam and Chickenfoot were a good marriage because Sam has always been a hard rocker. Dave, while much of the same, always loved to branch out. How badass would it be if he created a blues superband or something? Having partners to bounce ideas off of and play with. Or if he stuck to the rock thing and played with a virtuoso again.

If Dave went back out after VH, who would you like to see him play with? I have a number of ideas, but I'll post them later

At one point he had evidently talked with Carmine Appice before the DLR Band album.

A couple years ago when asked about Roth, VH and CF on That Metal Show, Vai said he'd love to start a supergroup with Roth. He was joking, I think, seeing as he had some funny name for the band but irregardless if Vai and Sheehan were up for it, Id love to see Dave do an album and tour with them. They could try and get Bissonette back for an EEAS reunion or they could get a new drummer. Maybe Vinnie Paul?

There was also talk of Dave, Slash, and Tommy Lee in '97. I think it was proven to be true that they at least discussed it?

I've always wanted to hear Dave do a blues based album where he can really cut lose on the baritone vocals. So maybe have someone like Jonny Lang, Derek Trucks or Kenny Wayne Shepherd on guitar with The Black Crowes' Steve Gorman on drums. As for bass? Well to make it an "All-Star" group... what the hell... Tom Hamilton from Aerosmith on bass.

Vinnie is a average drummer at best and quite a tacky lil fellow.
The EEAS line up would be a GREAT reunion

That would kick. I had Derek Trucks in mind, actually.

Thought about Trucks, and before he passed Doyle Bramhall on drums. What a kickass band that would be in and of itself, throw Dave in? It'd be a departure but I think it'd totally fit his forte.

David Lee Roth would not last for two minutes in a band with Tommy Lee. Just think about DLR and Tommy having a conversation, Dave would want to kill himself after five minutes, and Tommy wouldn't understand a word out of Dave's mouth.

Dave is an old Bluesman imo. I think that genre is where he could find legitimate critical success post VH. Nothing tongue in cheek or typically "Dave" but a serious blues-oriented band. I don't know who he could play with in regards to a supergroup but maybe some up and coming, hungry, unknown players that he could mentor.

Totally agree. Laid back blues scatting and crooning is his wheel house.

Like all great blues singers, he can tell a story with his voice, he doesn't get to show that off very often, but I think a blues album from him would be stellar, as long as he didn't try to bozzity bozzity bop it too much.

    Default Prince

Aside from the blues, (great idea,) another idea comes to mind: David Lee Roth & Prince!

*Scenario takes place in an alternate universe where both are (relatively) psychiatrically fit, and digging the collaboration*

1.) Covering each other's back-catalogs is -- hilarious! A gift from God (or a joke by the devil.) Prince sings "On Fire;" David Lee sings "Darling Nikki" -- hits "Just Like Paradise" and "I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man" are combined in a medley, as they're basically the same tune.

2.) The high note returns -- really returns -- to the Van Halen onstage back catalog
