Default Crossing Over - It STILL blows me away!

So driving into work today, I had my ipod plugged in, and left it running... To my surprise, Crossing Over came up on play (completely forget that I had it in there). To make a long story short, I was cruising down Route 2, blasting the song windows down... and MAN this is still a killer tune, dark vibe and all..

Definately!! In the pre-iPod days I listened to it on cd in my car really loud. I swear that the sound not only moves from right to left, but front to rear in spots. I don't know if the technology is there for such a thing to really happen, but I'll be damned that's what it sounds like.

It DOES! I would love to find a clean copy of the song, I don't even know where the CD I had of it is anymore. But the channels (I think that is what they are) switching just really hit in a good way. Man I cannot wait to get in my car and drive home now to listen to it again!

It wasnít obvious to me back in í95 but I really like the direction where those guys were heading with the music. Donít Tell me, Feelin, Humans Being, and Crossing Over all had the same dark and somber vibe and certainly seemed like new ground for the band. Had they held things together, the follow up album would have been interesting for sure.

That same vibe is present, in my opinion anyway, on the two DLR tunes on the greatest hits package. Also, parts of VH III have that same sort of dark vibe as well. I hear it in "A Year To The Day" for instance.

How crossing over doesnt make it onto that album is beyond me..woulda been a great ending song with the fading guitar.

I always loved the idea of Alex & Eddie playing drums at the same time.
    Amazing song.

Couple things about this song: The percussion (Eddie's parts) is well, frankly, stupid and disjointed....the electric drums sound dated and kinda lame. I bet Al had a hell of a time coming over the top of this one. Also, it starts and stops too much and it never really gets a flow until the "reachin out, reaching out".
Other than that I thought the outro was one of Ed's best yet and the song definitely has a dark and wandering vibe to it. Suicide is always a popular topic to sing about.

great song. I don't listen to it a whole lot cause frankly I don't like to think of the people in my life that have passed away and this is what that song makes me do. I think it's fantastic, one of the best examples of what the Hagar era could do.

I posted a link to it on my FB page a few months ago just to see what people would say and everyone who commented was blown away by it.

What a mindfuck of a song.

Sometimes I like to listen to "Respect the Wind" before it. Talk about a haunting 12 minutes. Should have been on the album.

I think that dark sound was the result of them NOT getting along. It told the future that none of us saw coming. At least I didn't.
