I'm a big Sam fan and have defended him, but also criticized him for some of the things he's said in the past in regards to Van Halen.

He's not wrong. And he answered the question quite well.

Can't wait to see how people twist this around.

Zach and Mitch, I started this thread with the intention that, that's the only line from a great interview that most will focus on.

Par for the course. Fair point.

    This interested me:
You're playing 40 minutes of classic Van Halen material? Then why aren't you playing the major festivals like Bonnaroo and Outside Lands? They scream "Sammy Hagar" to me.
See, now I'm upset. Because that pisses me off. I never get asked to do those things. And Chickenfoot neither. Chickenfoot wanted those festivals so bad, and [there's] something weird about my image or something I've done to where they don't want me on those shows. And I begged to be on the one right here, Outside Lands – it's right in my fucking backyard. I called my manager, I called my agent. I want to do it.
VH is certainly being asked to do them (and headline them). I would think Sammy would be a natural for them as well.

YES..BUT..He keeps saying ..'tarnished like the 04 tour'. Samuel. Let it go. You're in a good spot in life now..cool. But if Ed called he knows he would do it. Know why....? The fans. Its waaaay different than 2004 now bud. Ed is far beyond that now. In a good way of course.

I'll support a sam thing if it would happen. TOO many good songs. But he cant keep hanging on to '04. Do some fresh shows and make it right.

Um, the same way you guys did it to Dave when you were in the band. Gimme a break

Good comments by Sammy there, glad he is past VH (or is he really?) Either way I wish he and Mike well in future endeavors and hopefully some day they can be friends with Ed and Al again as I would hate to see one of them die and never have that hatchet buried. I don't want a Van Halen/Van Hagar tour with both singers, I think a PPV/DVD "One Night Only" concert featuring everyone would be cool and a good way to make up for the HOF thing.

Have Original lineup play an hour long set.
    Van Hagar play an hour
Van Cherone play Without You, One I want and Fire in the Hole
Then current lineup play a few from ADKOT and all of them come out for an encore jam of Crossroads.

Then the ADKOT lineup can move on and so can the Mike and Sam connection and Gary does his thing.

Yes, I would like to see Gary involved in this thing, the guy did nothing wrong but try and he gave us the ultimate LIVE Van Halen setlist.

They were a different band with Sam and didn't need to rely on the past. Back then they were always moving forward. But I know you love this shit, so carry on.

    There's a huge difference.

VH was a band constantly growing and moving forward. And they DID play Dave era songs. Maybe not as many as people would like, but they didn't ignore them.

VH is a nostalgia band now. Four new songs in a 25 song set is hardly "moving forward." There's a difference in the times.

Look at the setlists they put out and say with a straight face that they needed to rely on the past.

    Yeah, that's real "crap."

DLR can't sing those tunes the way they are on album, not sure why anyone is expecting anyone on here to disagree with what Sam said, it's just a simple fact.

Johnny Cash couldn't either, doesn't mean I don't love me some fucking Johnny Cash.

I personally wish Sam would ditch the Jimmy Buffett beach bum routine, but if that is who he is, more power to him, I just don't like his music when he is in that state of mind.

Good read, Sam almost always comes off as a cool dude.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!
