Default Is Chickenfoot Over? New Sam Interview.

Almost as interesting as the artists Sammy Hagar is collaborating with on his upcoming ‘Sammy Hagar and Friends’ album is the list of artists he couldn’t find time to record with. One, Metallica‘s James Hetfield, turned down Hagar’s invitation, but the Red Rocker says he understands why.

Hagar tells Rolling Stone that he had his friend Hetfield in mind for ‘Knockdown Dragout,’ but after running into Kid Rock, he asked him to record it instead. Later, Hagar extended an offer to Hetfield to take another, lesser role in the song. “He got back to me and said, quote-unquote, ‘I’m completely flattered that you would want my sailor-assed voice on your record,’” Hagar said. “And then he said, ‘But it isn’t my style.’ And I said, ‘It’s OK. I still love you, James.’

“I was cheating by sending him that song, because … if a Metallica fan would’ve heard this album and bought it because he was on there, they would be pissed off.”

In addition to Kid Rock, country singers Ronnie Dunn and Toby Keith are on the album. So are Taj Mahal, Joe Satriani and Chad Smith (Hagar’s Chickenfoot bandmates), Heart‘s Nancy Wilson and Journey‘s Neal Schon. Hagar called his duet with Wilson the best on the record. Hagar said he also couldn’t find room or time for Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter.

Hagar’s plan is to release the album on Sept. 24 and then promote it with some big shows in 2014. He’d love to play festivals, but he never gets invited to perform at events like Bonnaroo and Outer Lands. “Chickenfoot wanted those festivals so bad,” he admitted to Rolling Stone. “[But there's] something weird about my image or something I’ve done to where they don’t want me on those shows. I’m going to beg for festivals. I’ll play them for free.”

Chickenfoot will probably continue. As recently as only a week ago, Satch said that he's been writing songs for Chickenfoot and would like to get the band together and record this winter.

I see what Sammy is trying to do with festivals. It'd definately bring an older crowd and show up the kids in the music biz.

When I read "he also couldn’t find room or time for Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter" I had to re-read it. I thought there might be some bonus or lost tracks out there somewhere. Then the word time hit me..... Crap!

In other interviews Sam has said 2014 was going to be the year for another CF
album and tour. From this interview he is touring by himself IN 2014 no mention of CF!

A year is a long time. Sam cant pull off a whole year as much as I am a fan he cant....so that means the rest of the year is CF probably.

And that's all I really need to hear.

It just really makes the most sense to record in the winter. The new RHCP guitarist says they'll record in spring 2014 and no longer in the fall or winter. Which means no album/tour until fall 2014. Chad's got a full year of availability, Joe is free soon, Sam's tour doesn't go too long.

    It'll happen.

I'm not so sure anymore. I used to think it was a no-brainer, but it seems getting the schedules of Sam, Joe and Chad in sync is more difficult than initially thought.

We are also going under the assumption that what RHCP says now is what they will actually do. Most album and tour plans change this far out in advance, Chad could easily be busy with the Peppers through the end of 2014.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

RHCP isn't hitting the studio now until early 2014 as they have tour dates into November now. They will most assuredly tour after the album release, so to me that means Chad isn't available anytime soon, maybe into 2015 as much as the RHCP tour.

    Ehh, not necessarily.

I admittedly didn't know they were touring in November. Even still, that album may not even be ready until the fall, and I'd be hard pressed to imagine them hitting the road again before the album is ready.

I think Chad will have more time than we think. He essentially recorded CFIII and the new RHCP album back in 2011 at the same time.

Well knowing this info, is it safe to say that if they make another
album they will do it with Chad and tour with a different drummer?
Shit I missed Chad on this last tour!
