    Default Ticketmaster's $55 Fee on a $75 ticket

Most young concert goers have no idea there was a time before Ticketmaster and ticketing fees. It was a long time ago, but it existed. You would go to your local box office, and pay the amount of money that the ticket cost, and then leave.

Since Ticketmaster’s rise to prominence, those tickets now have a variety of fees attached, driving up the price of the average ticket. In the 90′s, Pearl Jam tried to sue Ticketmaster, and several competitors like Eventbrite have emerged with lower fees, but most premium tickets go through Ticketmaster/Live Nation.

This time, it looks like Ticketmaster may be going a little too far. Reddit user MistletoeAlert recently discovered that for gypsy rockers Gogol Bordello’s three night stand at Hollywood, CA’s Fona Theater, Ticketmaster has levied a $55 fine on a $75 3-day pass. Individual tickets for the three night run run $29.00, with an $11.75 fee. Under this logic, buying each day individually would end up being cheaper than buying the three day pass, although shipping fees would likely drive the price of the individual tickets.

Tickets for the shows officially go on sale on Friday, so we’ll see if Ticketmaster claims this as an error and fixes it somehow. However, it sure does look like Ticketmaster is shadily ensuring that nobody gets a discount to these shows.

It's legal criminal activity. How those scumbags are allowed to rape customers like they do is disgusting.

They're allowed to because WE let them. If nobody went to concerts and sent a message then they couldn't get away with it. We are to blame because we value the "experience and memories" and a lot of us will pay no matter what the cost for the most part.

i don't really buy that. They just don't run the concert business, they basically run the ticketing for the buildings. To expect the consumer to just take a pass on all events in major buildings is asking a bunch.

Honestly I just now think of it as part of the price of ticket and would prefer to not even know what the fee was. But the artist certainly want it shown seperately.

Unfortunately not going to concerts and voting with your pocketbook is the ONLY answer. We DO have a say. Why can't the artist sell the tickets themselves? I'll tell you why. They are just as much a part of the problem as Ticketmaster. Its greed my friend, nothing more and again WE are a part of the problem.

Because they aren't allowed to I believe is the answer. I'm pretty sure Ticketmaster has exclusive rights to ticketing for all of the big venues up here.

this is kind of unfair. The service of creating the ticket, having a worker there, etc was built into the price of the ticket. We were still paying a fee, it was just embedded into the price of the ticket.

Ticketmaster are crooks but they do provide something of value. It's their pricing that drives me nuts.

Of course you would say that. Youre probably one of those guys who will pay over a hundred dollars for a single ticket and then bitch about the price and blame Ticketmaster when you have a choice to not buy the ticket.

No, I say that because you blaming the ticket buyer for this scam is asinine. We're at the mercy of those assholes because they're in total control and we like to go to events. It's the definition of a monopoly. To suggest there be some kind of mass boycott of events to fix the problem is so unrealistic it's laughable.

Its not unrealistic. Only to YOU it is. Many people have stopped going to concerts all together as they cant justify the prices to themselves anymore. If more people did that then guess what would happen? But its easier to give in for the sake of a good time which is your prerogative. We're NOT at the mercy of Ticketmaster, we're at the mercy of our own enjoyment.

ticketmaster doesn't charge extra to print them at home here i don't think. At least not the last time i bought tickets.

I'm fine with a fee for the service. It's part of the business. I'd like to see some sort of fixed amount though per venue. I just looked at two different events at the ACC and one had a service fee of 7.25, the other 16.25. Makes no sense.

Its not just Ticketbastard it's the whole western world.
EVH 1979: Well, actually it's not much of a vacation, because we run everything ourselves. We design our own album cover, we have to be in the office every day to sign checks - the whole corporation revolves around us. Nothing can be done without our approval. We even have photo approval.
