"There are some Roth and Hagar people who just won't get over it, Gary is here to stay. There's been no reports of a rift between the guys. They're getting along fine. They're in the studio and everything is going well."
Van Halen Spokesperson, Rolling Stone, August 1999

"The members of Van Halen have announced that singer Gary Cherone is leaving the band. The band stressed that the departure was both mutual and amicable and they remain good friends."
Van Halen Press Release, www.van-halen.com, November 1999

"[Gary Cherone leaving Van Halan] was a mutual thing. Gary did leave the band because of writing differences stuff like that. After the holidays, when Ed gets better, we're gonna see what's going to happen. It could be a reunion with one of the others, with Dave or Sam. We haven't decided anything yet. We really have to think this one out whether we will get a new singer. I don't know if that would be the correct thing to do, at this point... whether we can settle differences with Sammy or come back with a reunion tour with Dave. So this is what we have to think out. I really don't know what to think because I think there are plusses and minuses for each thing. That's why it will be very... if we decide that we want to try something again with one of those guys then we definitely all have to get together and try to work out our differences, the problems that we've had. I think Dave would probably come back. The reasons why it didn't work out after the 'Best of' were kind of silly reasons. Mostly on Dave's part. I don't know... it's kind of frustrating ... I'd like everything to work out with a big new tour. I definitely think that whatever we do we're gonna kick some major ass."
Michael Anthony, Dutch Van Halen Fan Club Interview, December 1999

"Guitarist Eddie Van Halen, his drummer brother Alex Van Halen and bassist Michael Anthony are in a Los Angeles studio recording the next Van Halen album."
Van Halen's Warner Bros. Publicist, SonicNet News, February 2000

"I can't tell you [who Van Halen's new singer is], we're saving the announcement for the right time. All I can say is, it's going to be huge. It's a name people will know."
Micheal Anthony, Yamaha All Access, July 2000

"I did hear that David Lee Roth had back surgery. I'm not saying this negatively. The anti-Sammy people always take what I say as bad-rapping Van Halen. I'm not bad-rapping them: somebody asked me what I know and I told him. I don't keep track of Van Halen's business. I've got my own. When someone tells me something, and it's a legitimate source I think 'this must be true.' I was also told that they got four songs done with Dave, things didn't work out, it blew up a month or two ago and Van Halen is putting out a box set of David Lee Roth era stuff. I don't know if those four songs will be on there, but that's what I know."
Sammy Hagar, Music Connection Magazine, September 2000

"It's Van Halen. As opposed to the last album, Van Halen 3, it's more oriented toward the early Van Halen-type sound. We will be making some announcements very soon. All I can really tell you is we're in the studio working on new material, there will be a new Van Halen coming out, and it sounds great. [Touring] is the lifeblood of this band — we're all itching to go back out on tour, Of course, with the personnel changes, whatever, that's gone on with the band, we just want to make sure that it's the best we can do when we come out."
Micheal Anthony, SonicNet News, January 2001

"We're getting ready to make some official announcements... as far as I'm concerned it's not soon enough. I don't know if this summer is... probably more like the fall, I imagine. We are working on new material in the studio. Early this year we'll be letting people know what's going on. Don't forget us! We're still here!"
Michael Anthony, Metal Edge Online, January 2001

"About a year ago myself and the great Van Halen band played together once or twice and it sounded amazing! In the following several months Edward and I, Edward Van Halen and me, David Lee Roth, created some of the most amazing, phenomenal - the hands fell off the clock ladies and gentleman and we wrote three astonishing tunes. That was last July and since then I haven't been up to the studio, we haven't really been in touch and we haven't made any music, but I am holding forth, I'm in the shape of my life and I got the high note. I'm ready to go. And I am positive for the future ladies and gentleman."
David Lee Roth, www.davidleeroth.com, April 2001

"We're aware of all the rumors, and rumors are just that. We are continuing to work in the studio creating music for our next record. For any updates, come here to our website first. We'll stay in touch."
Edward, Alex and Mike, www.van-halen.com, April 2001

"I'm sorry for having waited so long to address this issue personally. But, cancer can be a very unique and private matter to deal with. So, I think it's about time to tell you where I'm at. I was examined by three oncologists and three head & neck surgeons at Cedars Sinai just before spring break and I was told that I'm healthier than ever and beating cancer. Although it's hard to say when, there's a good chance I will be cancer free in the near future. I just want to thank all of you for your concern and support. Love, Eddie."
Eddie Van Halen, www.van-halen.com, April 2001

"I was stunned this morning to learn Eddie Van Halen has cancer. My condolences. You can whip this, champ. See ya down the road."
David Lee Roth, www.davidleeroth.com, April 2001

"[The songs recorded with David Lee Roth in 2000] probably [won't be released]."
Eddie Van Halen, Reuters News, May 2001

"The band has always been together. Whether we have a singer or not is a different story... depends what we do."
Eddie Van Halen, Reuters News, May 2001

"I never had a problem with Van Halen as far as just the four of us [band members]. We went in there, we created, we wrote songs and that was it. But I always knew that, every time I stepped on stage, I didn't have to do anything [wrong] for people to hate me. I loved the VH experience. They were awesome, and most of the fans were good, but some of the fans got in my head... but that's part of their loyalty to their heroes. I understood that completely. [III] was a risk, but it was 'Damned if you do, damned if you don't.' If the record had sounded totally like Van Halen anyway, then [the fans and critics] would have killed me for trying to be Dave or Sammy. Part of me knew that, no matter what I did with Van Halen, it never would be my band... and it never was my band. At that point in their career, they weren't about to embark on a new career. I wouldn't trade it for the world. I wouldn't trade the experience. I made good friends, and I definitely grew as a singer. Eddie made me a better singer in the studio."
    Gary Cherone, LiveDaily.com, June 2001

"Ed's doing great. The cancer, the tongue thing, stems from a little problem that he had over a year ago. He was pretty much over it and had it all licked, and then he decided to put something on our website to let people know what he had been going through--because everybody wanted to know--and we kind of kept it quiet when it was happening. He's doing great, and we're ready to rock. He's got a new hip. He's like The Six Million Dollar Man--he's better than before."
Michael Anthony, Launch.com News, June 2001

"We're not gonna let our fans down. I can't say exactly when it's gonna be, but all I can say is it's gonna be great. You know, Van Halen, we've always done it top-notch, and that's the way it's gonna be."
Michael Anthony, Launch.com News, June 2001

"The last time I spoke to or saw Dave was back in September of last year [2000]. I played him a few new tunes, we bullshitted a bit, had some laughs, and everything seemed cool. He was even kind enough to turn me onto his uncle, Jack Roth, a cancer surgeon and research specialist at--coincidentally--[the University Of Texas] M.D Anderson [Cancer Center], in Houston, where I had been going once a week for treatment. Everything looked pretty positive about gettin' together. But before you know it attorneys are involved. These cats had me so beat down and confused, it made the cancer seem like a tiny zit on my ass. Everything seemed to fall apart once these guys got involved. I mean... we used to do it on a handshake. At this point, I don't have a clue what is going on."
Eddie Van Halen, Maximum Golf, July 2001

"I have no idea [about Van Halen's future with David Lee Roth], I swear I really don't know. I don't know what goes on in other people's realities, and I don't try to figure it out. He knows where I live. It's outta my hands. We have enough material for a couple, three [albums]. We're just sitting around waiting to see what happens. If we don't get something going soon, I'm gonna start selling the stuff."
Eddie Van Halen, SonicNet News, July 2001

"Van Halen is on a little break."

seems like it was in thw rorks then stopped. all you need to do is define "it".

it's my opinion that things hinge on ed's health. as glen pointed out ta me to drive the point home again, look at the pics from him with styxx. no way ed can do a tour rite now, let alone put up with dave's antics, he needs to be full on healthy. ed is skinny as a mofo. in 91 when he was drinkin, he was putting the weight on, getting bloated lookin. now he's just plain ass skinny, that's cancer...i've seen it break pepole down firsthand and i know a lot of you have too. i just think we get this "lawyer" thing from the band cuz no one wants to say what is going on with edward i can see that, although i do wish we would get an official statement from the band.

seems like if they wanted to have gotten it done, they would have. no matter what anyone says, val included.....i think it hinges on ed's health.

the people who blame ed for everything are funny. look at it this way....ed says he is fine, ok...a statement. but these are the same people that say ed is one half of the lying dutchmen and is full of b.s. if ed is such a bullshitter, then why do you guys believe that he is healthy? get my point here?

if ed were 110% healthy, mikey wouldn't be doing a side project and we'd be in an arena right now bangin our heads

the fact that mike is gonna work with sam is a huge indictor there is most likely nothing coming from them this year.

what we need, is to see some pics of ed where he looks a hell of a lot better. and then, i'll feel better; and then i'll be excited.

Thats a pretty fantastic collaberation. Great effort, thanks for putting it together for us. [img]graemlins/thumb.gif[/img]

Hard to believe its been this long. Those quotes really pique the curiousity as to what the FUCK has been going on out there, and bring the timeline into perspective.

All that these quotes seem to point to a conclusion FORD has made before. Michael's mouth has been running for two years....not a person has called him a liar....Maybe, FORD, we should rename VH...the Lying Dutchmen plus One. I could fertilize many fields with all the shit that has come out of Mike's mouth.

Ford doesn't know his ass from his elbow in reference to this band or any other. He's in his own elusive reality. Somewhere, between 1982-1984, he probably got laid for the first and only time....and he's trying desperately to get back to that year and time...and he's frustrated that all of the bands that he liked at the time, have insisted on growing and moving forward....and discarding the asshole singers that can't sing anymore...

Too bad really, he calls the VH brothers "the lying dutchmen"....when he doesn't know the truth from a hole in the wall...He probably still thinks its 1983...

It is amazing that this is still going on after 2 years. I really do believe that over the years someone was about to make some announcement when something happened to delay it.

Were the delays conflicts in personalities, musical differences, health problems, contract problems between Dave and Eddie, legal/WB problems, some or all of the above?

And perhaps most importantly, how have the delays impacted the future? Since nobody is saying anything negative about each other, there is slight hope...
