    Default Zimmerman found not guilty!

I kind of thought they would come back with manslaughter verdict.

    Hopefully calm ensues.

I watched this every day on TV and I can't understand how this guy got away with out being convicted of manslaughter.

another one of those things that has me rethinking moving to Florida

oh...and I think Mark Omara (defense attorney) is a smug ass....just wanted to get that in there

survivor of the Bowling Green Massacre 9-3-2016 BGSU 10 OSU 77

She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted.

I didn't watch one minute of this trial and I knew this guy would not be convicted of anything.

There was a fight. A person was getting their ass beat and felt like it was going to be their time to go and pulled a gun. It's tragic for all involved but the lesson to learn is don't start shit with anybody and if somebody starts shit with you, then be the bigger man and try to walk away. These are crazy ass times that we live in and there is no room for bruised egos. Think of loved ones not macho bullshit.

I agree with the verdict. Some people make the statement, "All Travon Martin did was go to the store and buy candy and a watermelon tea and was walking home and got shot". They seem to forget he assaulted a guy with a gun and got shot because Zimmerman defended himself. Like Cabo said, don't fuck with people...mind your own damn business instead of being macho. Remember Travons friends testimony showed that Travon, on the phone, was racially profiling Zimmerman with his "creepy ass cracker" comment. People seem to forget that too!

I didn't think he'd be found guilty, but WTF Florida?

    http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-...warning-shots/

Fla. mom gets 20 years for firing warning shots

(CBS News) JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A Florida woman who fired warning shots against her allegedly abusive husband has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Marissa Alexander of Jacksonville had said the state's "Stand Your Ground" law should apply to her because she was defending herself against her allegedly abusive husband when she fired warning shots inside her home in August 2010. She told police it was to escape a brutal beating by her husband, against whom she had already taken out a protective order.

CBS Affiliate WETV reports that Circuit Court Judge James Daniel handed down the sentence Friday.

Under Florida's mandatory minimum sentencing requirements Alexander could receive a lesser sentence, even though she has never been in trouble with the law before. Judge Daniel said the law did not allow for extenuating or mitigating circumstances to reduce the sentence below the 20-year minimum.

"I really was crying in there," Marissa's 11-year-old daughter told WETV. "I didn't want to cry in court, but I just really feel hurt. I don't think this should have been happening."

Alexander was convicted of attempted murder after she rejected a plea deal for a three-year prison sentence. She said she did not believe she did anything wrong.

She was recently denied a new trial after appealing to the judge to reconsider her case based on Florida's controversial "Stand Your Ground" law. The law states that the victim of a crime does not have to attempt to run for safety and can immediately retaliate in self-defense.

Alexander's attorney said she was clearly defending herself and should not have to spend the next two decades behind bars.

Alexander's case has drawn support from domestic abuse advocates - and comparison to the case of neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman, who has claimed a "Stand Your Ground" defense in his fatal shooting of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin.

You forget one key thing. Zimmerman was specifically told by the dispatcher he was in phone contact with not to get out of his car and confront Martin. To me, and I would think anyone with a unbiased, logical approach to this case, that would be the key piece of evidence as to why this confrontation was initiated and how it could have been avoided.

And think about it.... you're walking home from a trip to the 7/11, some car starts slowly following you and eventually a guy (not a cop, mind you) gets out and approaches you asking you what you're doing walking alone through an apt complex at night. You aren't going to feel at least a bit uneasy, maybe threatened?

Zimmerman was the one who initiated the confrontation. It escalated to a fight where Zimmerman was getting his ass kicked, he pulled his gun and shot the guy dead. That's really the nuts and bolts of it. Everything else is window dressing. Personally, I think Zimmerman should have gotten Manslaughter but I wasn't on the jury.

Amusingly, maybe all the black people in Florida should start taking gun classes, arming themselves and going on "neighborhood watch" patrols. I bet you'd see some laws change real quick in that state.

No, he was not specifically told to NOT get out of his car. The dispatcher asked, "where is he now", then Zimmerman started looking for him. Zimmerman was then asked, "are you following him", he said, "yes". The dispatcher said, "we don't need you to do that". Peeps, that statement "we don't need you to do that", can be interpreted as "don't do it" AND "thanks for doing that, it's a kind gesture of help for the police". I am not biased with the facts of this case. The outcome sucks, a young guy is dead. The next time you are in a situation where you think you are doing the right thing and someone (anyone) says to you, "we don't need you to do that" and you stop doing it, maybe you will not feel like a good person...maybe you were in the process of picking up an elderly womans groceries that she dropped and she said, "I don't need you to do that". Ya know what I am saying? I don't think Zimmerman had the intent of killing Martin. He called the police before he was attacked and then had to defend himself. I would have a different outlook on this case if Zimmerman had no 311 call, and shot him multiple times. But, some people just are hung up on Skittles and Tea and walking home.

Who in their right mind interprets that as "get out of your car and confront the person?"

Answer: some dude with a gun who thinks he's a wannabe cop.

I (would like to) think that people still would because it's not just about this specific incident, it's also about the Stand Your Ground law and what it seems to allow.
