nice find. didn't know that he wrote so much for others, including "walk on water".

seems very satisfied - glad for him.

I came across that story a while back too. Good to hear about him. Met him and his wife in Cabo, seemed like a really good guy.

I wonder if "not wanting to tour anymore" is code for "I didn't get a raise". I often wonder if there's bad blood between Sammy and Jesse. He left after co-writing writing Things've Changed, which was on Not 4 Sale. Sammy's touring band, IMO, has missed him ever since.

It was nice to have live keyboards for Right Now, Dreams, etc.

I get the impression that Sam isn't stingy with the money for his band. I think that there is a point where musicians decide enough is enough with the touring and the grind.
I don't have a cool signature. Deal with it!

Wasn't he mad about Sam going back to Van Halen in 2004? I might be mistaken, but I thought I remember reading that.

If so, I doubt he still holds that grudge, he's just older, he probably doesn't want to do it.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

It might be something different, it might have to do with songwriting credits.
For a songwriter, those credits are not only a matter of money, but also a matter of pride. Bruised ego, maybe.

But if Jesse looks at Sam's record since he left, he's probably thinking he hasn't missed much.

And from my perspective, I wish Sam would look at his solo records and wonder how Jesse Harms could have played a part.

If my timeline is correct, I think Jesse left before Sammy sold Cabo Wabo. Maybe I'm reading into it, but on one of Sammy's live DVDs (can't remember which one) he does say to Mona that she knows better than to ask for a raise. I'm probably making something out of nothing, and I'm not saying he doesn't treat his band well either. It could be Jesse left because he was done touring, or it could be something else. I don't think Sammy even mentioned him in the book, and really has never mentioned him since he left the band. Am I wrong?

jesse was mad about the 04 thing, that's when they parted company. Jesse was the first person sammy contacted about being in his band and they were really tight so when sam put the wabo's on hold jesse was outta there.

Yep, Jesse was bitter about Sam rejoining VH for the 2004 tour. Remember reading a quote from him to the effect of "Sam had been trying to get back in VH for the last couple of years, and now he's in. Good for him"

Jesse threw away a paying gig where he didn't have to do a damn thing. Sam continued to pay the Wabos while he reconvened with Van Halen.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

Jesse had been playing with Sam long before the Wabo's.

There's a huge part of the band's sound that's missing without Jesse. Saw them twice with him and several without. He really filled them out well. And he was a force; Sam's solo stuff just hasn't been the same since Not 4 Sale.

Seeing how 2004 went down, Sam would have been better off not doing it, and maybe Jesse knew that. For us hindsight is 20/20 and I'm certainly not deriding him for the reunion tour, but maybe Jesse had a bad feeling about it. That he would either abandon the Wabo's completely or that he was making a stupid decision.

In some respects, he may have been right.

For some, principle means more than just getting paid.
