Wow... All the cop had to say was, "I smell something funny". That woulda been his probable cause...

I'm sure I'll be called un-American and a communist, but the guys making these types of videos are instigators and trouble makers. Sure, I totally get the point they're making, but I could also be sober and right behind them in line. Cool! now I get to deal with a pissed off group of cops.

I agree for the most part and I, to, get the point they're making. And it's a damned good point to be making.

But for the sake of time and convenience I personally would just answer the questions so I can get on my way to my destination as Ive done when cops have stopped me for alcohol checkpoints and/or pulling me over randomly.

That being said, if I feel like Im being unfairly treated then I might raise a stink.

The checkpoints are city/PD Policy. A cop didn't wake up in the morning and decide he'd run a checkpoint. You have a problem with them, go to the city council/Mayor/appropriate city head. That's exactly what's happened here in So. Cal. in a lot of cities. Checkpoints have been taken down or their powers greatly reduced. Being a jerk to the cops isn't gonna help anything.

one of the bad apples was sitting in the drivers seat of that car

around here check points are announced...apparently its the law, so getting around them is not a problem

I'll bet 50 bucks that this guy LOOKED for a check point to go thru, given that he had a camera with him and turned on and from the first second did everything he could to antagonize the officer and get the upper hand.

I hate people like this, they are doing NOTHING to promote civil rights, and should they ever get their arses out of this country and visit others, they'd be damn glad of civil liberties they have in this country

I'm tired of these people playing cops and lawyers

I think this stuff is important. Why do cops trample on rights, lie, and find ways around our protections? Because we let them. I know some cops, and they're good guys. But I've been treated like a criminal, kind of like this guy, and I was cooperative. Even had my license chucked at my face by a cop.

It almost seems like a switch gets thrown with these guys. Refuse one request--something you don't have to do, like the window--and cops can ruin your night.

We're taught to be passive and do whatever the police tell us to do. We don't really emphasize your rights as a citizen in education. We should. These cops on camera mocked the fact that this guy "new" his rights. Off camera they told him rights don't exist at a checkpoint.

A judge recently ordered that having a mint in your mouth is probable cause for a DUI and they can breathalyzers you. But it's the slow hatchet of your rights that happens and we don't notice.

I think there was fault on both sides. The guy refusing to roll down his window is slightly suspicious at a checkpoint and that caused everything to go downhill. But the cop getting the dog to "smell something" was wrong, and you could tell at that point they just really wanted to nail him, which is vindictive and wrong.

Here's what I don't understand. Drinking and driving is illegal. Why not pick a bar, and altetnate them. Wait for drunks to get into their cars and presto! THAT would do more to curb DUI's than these time wasting money grabs that dont really do a whole lot of good. Out of the hundreds of cars that go through, the majority of tickets will be run of the mill no insurance/seatbelt type infractions. Police are much more likely to catch DUI'S actually driving around and pulling them over. Thats is how the majority of DUI's are caught. By traffic related offenses first.

The cop was out of line.

I found the kid to be more irritating than the cop. And that says a lot, because the cop was bad. He knew the officer's name. Why didn't he just bite his lip and give his supervisor hell later?

If he showed the officer's supervisor this video, that officer is in a world of trouble. Instead, he put it on YouTube. Probably to generate sympathy from his friends and be viewed a "hero" online.

I also seriously doubt that he just happened to be recording his driving when suddenly he was unjustly pulled over at a traffic stop. He knew what he was doing all along. The cop was out of line and I am not excusing it, but the kid was an attention-seeking twat.

The first video that voivod posted is only one in a series. The guy does this shit as a hobby in hopes of garnering support for his cause. I'm going out on a limb here, but what are the chances this hero has a CCW permit and a pistol in his glove box, just in case his driving rights aren't abused enough and a search actually gets that far.

Some patriots should just stay the fuck home.
