Without Ed, there would not have been Wolfgang.

Nah, they'd all be a novelty. Eddie mainstreamed that style.

Nuno became a star because of these two songs. If you can find an Eddie influence then you have much different ears than me:

Yeah, but even Nuno says that's not representative of his playing. That's just their only 2 hits.

Nuno had many influences, kind of silly to think that without one that he wouldn't exist.

I'm sure he did have many influences, but to hear Eddie for the first time back in '78, there was no one doing anything like that. To think that Eddie didn't heavily influence those guys would be hard to believe.

They did. To say they wouldn't exist without one influence is harder to believe.

You're also assuming that nuno was even playing guitar in 78.

    You think so?

I'm interesting in hearing your theory here.

I know Steve Vai has openly admitted he would not play the way he does without Eddie...do you really think Nuno and Gilbert would play the same way if Eddie never existed? I do think it's possible Satch would sound almost the same...but I think he picked up some flavor from Eddie too.

(I see you later said they would still be playing...but I'm more interesting in why you think they would be exactly the same)

I would also allow for the possibility that rock guitar may have just turned a completely different corner without Eddie....would have continued to be a Clapton-based style...or maybe got stale altogether and died out. All those things would effect the next generation of guitarists as far as them becoming famous.
