    Can you get flavoured bourbons?

And is bourbon the same as whisky, or not?

Is bourbon only from America? (We can buy JD, Southern Comfort, and Jim Beam here - but I think they're American, yes?)

Bourbon is whiskey and it is American. The only flavor it should ever have is corn and charred oak.

That's just my opinion. I have several bottles of various brands that are over forty years old in my garage, that I got from a neighbor who passed a few years back. I believe I shall indulge this evening in honor of Bourbon Day.

    In order

    1. Yes, several types (If you go to Jim Beam's website alone, you will see many)

    2. Nope - Blended and aged differently, though as with anything similar, all have some sort of basis on whiskey

    3. The history is clear as mud honestly, though it appears it is only made in the US currently

With all that said, time to head home for a nip!

I won't insult your intelligence by suggesting that you really believe what you just said

Never tried or even heard of flavored bourbons, and I've been drinking JD or the like all of my adult life. Doesn't sound like something I'd care for.

While I prefer Maker's Mark and Woodford, I drink so much of it that I'm usually buying Old Forester and then in a pinch Evan Williams.

I mainly drink Old Forester since it's pretty much Woodford but tonight I'll be drinking one of the big boys

Only way to drink it is straight up, or on the rocks. sometimes a little splash of water but that splash has gotten smaller and smaller over the years. still like it over ice though

There are TONS of bourbon bars that have opened up around here over the past couple of years. Bourbon has kind of really taken off and the Bourbon trail is here.

They even make a pretty good Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. Don't know if that's just a local product or national...??

Hmmm, well that's where we differ, then, 47. I cannot STAND whisky (or bourbon), but I think I might be prepared to give a flavoured one a go!

Yep! On the rocks! Only way to go.

I'm currently finishing up a small pint bottle of Ancient Age and have a pint of Four Roses next on the list. I don't know if those are quality or cheap, but they taste OK to me. Like I said, they are over forty years old, not including the age in the bottles. I discusseed this old booze here somewhere when I first got it. Can't recall which forum.

As far as flavored bourbon goes? well Jim Beam has something nasty called Red Stag that's pretty much it's like liquorish tasting mess.

If you are new to bourbon, get you some Maker's Mark. Pour ya a nice couple of shots over ice then throw in a splash of water. It's an acquired taste but I honestly can't drink any other type of liquor any more. Get the grill up and runnin' throw on some good tunes and enjoy your night

But it will STILL be whiskey or bourbon. That base flavor will still be there. I don't think you're gonna like it any better.

I just gagged a little at the thought of that, let alone any kind of flavor. Keep it pure, keep it real. Sip Pernod Liqueur if that's what floats your boat.

Although I do recall squeezing some orange slices into some AA/rocks last week while sitting out by the fire pit. I'd had a few by then.

Pernod's OK. So is Ouzo. Both are aniseed-flavoured tipples. Absinthe is the same but that stuff is like fire-water!!!

I'm not sure whether I'd like the flavoured bourbons or not...I don't like 'normal' rum either - but I can drink coconut rum 'til the cows come home! If it's sweet, and tastes a bit like pop (soda), I'm more than happy to indulge!
