Default Bill Cosby: A plague called apathy

He was the New York City dad we all wish we had Cliff Huxtable, the strict, funny and understanding father on “The Cosby Show,” played for eight years by actor Bill Cosby. Now 75, Cosby continues to be a father figure, speaking out about the importance of personal responsibility. He’s on a concert tour (he comes to White Plains in September) and has a new book, “I Didn’t Ask to be Born (But I’m Glad I Was).” Last week, he met with reporter Stacy Brown to share his thoughts about Bloomberg’s health crusades, children without manners and parents who need to be more involved. But the biggest issue facing us today, he argues, is apathy.

I’m a Christian. But Muslims are misunderstood. Intentionally misunderstood. We should all be more like them. They make sense, especially with their children. There is no other group like the Black Muslims, who put so much effort into teaching children the right things, they don’t smoke, they don’t drink or overindulge in alcohol, they protect their women, they command respect. And what do these other people do?

They complain about them, they criticize them. We’d be a better world if we emulated them. We don’t have to become black Muslims, but we can embrace the things that work.
"Watch what people are cynical about, and one can often discover what they lack.” -- Gen. George S. Patton

Bill's a funny guy. Just coexist that's all and stop the killing on both sides.

i kinda get what Dr. Bill is trying to say, but I'm not sure it came out in the best way. He's not discussing coexisting, he's discussing parenting. I'm not sure apathy is the correct term, I just think it's a lack of ability for parents to say "no" to anything anymore. Just look at the ridiculous amounts of money kids are dumping on proms anymore. Go to the park and watch 5 year olds running around with $500 tablets. Not to mention the "everyone gets a trophy, you can't lose" mentality we're ingraining in them. Spelling? That doesn't matter anymore. God forbid you learn to read and write in English (and I'm not just talking about the immigrants) - we'll just cater to you. Don't lift a finger, sweetie, it will be provided...

Didn't he avoid paying child support or something back before?

Well, it seems Bill's statement was specifically about Black Muslims and how they raise their children, nothing more. However, as with any group like this, a certain percentage of assholes will be included and makes the whole statement spiral out of control because that is what most readers who are not black or a Muslim will pick out to discuss

Outside of that, Bill is just a guy with an opinion, no more and no less

    Loved his characters though
