Default Rare 1986 Pro-shot Footage: Why Cant This Be Love Read more: http://www.vhnd.com/

Weve all seen Live Without a Net, filmed in 1986 in New Haven, CT, during Van Halens first tour with Sammy Hagar. This is not from that release.

This is something most fans havent seen, as it was only aired outside the U.S. back in the 80′s. This live performance of Van Halens #2 hit single, Why Cant This Be Love, was filmed April 7th, 1986 at the Hollywood Sportatorium in Hollywood, Florida during the 5150 tour. Its surprisingly good quality for being so old, and its the only pro-shot footage that has ever been aired that is not from New Haven.

    Yup, that song still sucks.

The only song off 5150 not in my IPOD.

Oh god, I so hate this VanGar band. Such terrible music. I remember when that song first came out and I didn't hear it just yet. I was driving a truck at the time and only 19 years old. Good times back then. I pulled into my next delivery stop where I used to always talk to this fellow headbanger and he told me he just heard it on the radio. I asked what it sounded like? He said "it's a song that they would have done with Roth, the music was no different, just a different singer".
I finally heard heard it later that day and nearly puked. What an ugly gay sounding song. I never talked to that guy about music again.

I think this video proves that the only other guitar player to have played a solo in Van Halen other that Ed is Sammy Hagar! This version of the band rocked like no one else at the time. I was a huge Dave fan and when I saw Sammy with Van Halen i was totally blown away. Especially "Dreams". It took Van Halen to a whole different level while still keeping all the fun and party atmosphere. They experimented more- this song has a very jazzy feel which is doubled by the vocal - i have always thought that was awesome! Not the best version of this song i have ever heard- but a good time was had by all!

Dave, you're back in the band already, it's OK to move on.

For the life of me, I can never understand why Sam sang the guitar solo. It isn't terrible on the album (although it's still a little strange), but live, especially in this scenario, just comes across like he's wanting to play a wicked solo, but doesn't have the chops--just strange.

I think the best part about this video is that it isn't airbrushed--you get to see the band the way they were without the audio touch ups. Even though they are flat through almost the entire song, Mike is still in perfect harmony with Sam...LOL. As much as I love classic VH, Mike's voice was meant to be paired with Sam's.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

Wow, that 2004 version.....I watched for maybe a minute. Ed is just out there. Normally, I try not to watch any videos from that tour. It's like staring into the sun.
