Default A Pakistani, Saudi Arabian, and Singaporean walk into a bar at 12:30am....

well.... not really a bar, but...

BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (WWLP) - FBI agents from the bureau's Springfield Office were sent to Belchertown to investigate a situation involving seven people trespassing at the Quabbin Reservoir .

According to the Massachusetts State Police, around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, a State trooper noticed two vehicles parked on the grass at the Quabbin Reservoir "middle entrance.” While investigating the area, he saw five men and two women walking toward the vehicles.

The trooper determined the people were trespassing and in violation of the posted no trespassing law.

The individuals claimed to be chemical engineers, recent college graduates, and stated that they were at the reservoir for education and career interest, according to State Police.

Preliminary investigation, conducted later in the day by the Commonwealth Fusion Center , suggests the seven individuals are from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore.

The individuals live in Amherst, Cambridge, Sunderland, Northampton and New York City.

They have no warrants against them and no crime was committed Tuesday, other than the trespassing. An investigation is being conducted due to the late hour of the incident, the individuals' explanation for why they were there, and the trespassing.

After conducting the inquiries and investigation, the seven individuals were allowed to leave the scene in the two vehicles.

All seven will be summonsed to Eastern Hampshire District Court for the offense of trespassing.

Their names have not yet been released.

    Just a little sightseeing.....at midnight.

They are Muslim Chemists from countries that breed terrorists...Ahem, nothing to see here.

WARE - Massachusetts State Police announced Tuesday that it has notified the FBI and state terrorism officials after learning that seven people stopped for trespassing at the Quabbin Reservoir just after midnight Tuesday turned out to be from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Singapore.

State Police spokesman David Procopio said there is no evidence that the group of seven who were stopped at the reservoir near the middle entrance were engaged in terrorism or any crime beyond the trespassing charge.

Still, he said, state police have alerted officials with the FBI office in Springfield and the Commonwealth Fusion Center, which is the state’s centralized hub for collecting and analyzing data related to possible terrorism and threats to public safety.

Procopio said the state police would also be increasing patrols at Quabbin and at other water supplies around the state. The Quabbin is the major water supplier for the eastern part of the state, but also supplies water to Chicopee, Wilbraham and part of South Hadley. When full, the Quabbin holds 412 billion gallons of water.

“Further investigation is being undertaken because of the late hour when they were observed, their curious explanation for why they wanted to see the reservoir and the fact that they were in an area marked no trespassing,” Procopio said.

No one is allowed inside Quabbin an hour after sunset.

The seven people will be summonsed to appear in Hampshire District Court on the trespassing complaint, he said.

Their names were not released, he said, citing a state police policy against releasing names of suspects who are summonsed prior to an initial court appearance.

The group of five men and two women were spotted by state police at about 12:30 Tuesday walking away from the reservoir toward two vehicles. A trooper stopped them and cited them for violating a posted no-trespassing zone.

The group told police they were recent college graduates. Some were residing in the Amherst – Northampton area, while others were from Cambridge and New York City. All said they studied chemical engineering and they came out to see the Quabbin because it was in line with their education and career interests, Procopio said.

State police determined there were no warrants, detainers or advisories against any of the seven with Interpol, the FBI’s National Crime Information Center or with any state law enforcement agencies.

Remember Those Seven Muslims Enjoying A Midnight Stroll At The Quabbin?
    Posted on 08/31/2013

Remember this story from last May?

BELCHERTOWN (CBS) – Shortly after midnight Tuesday, seven people were caught trespassing at the Quabbin Reservoir.

State Police say the five men and two women are from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore, and “cited their education and career interests” for being in the area. The men told police they were chemical engineers and recent college graduates.

The Quabbin, in Belchertown, is one of the country’s largest man-made public water supplies. Boston’s drinking water comes from the Quabbin and the Wachusett Reservoirs.

The seven were almost immediately released because of course people come from Pakistan to take self-guided tours of our key water supplies. At midnight. In total darkness. While chanting “alahu ackbar.”

Nothing to see here (literally!), move along, we were told by the Boston Globe-Democrat and the MA state police. Interestingly, however, the police never released the arrest records or names of the trespassers–which would normally be no big deal. Every arrest is public–including mine. Why not some confused water-treatment students from the Middle East?

Which brings us to today’s news:

The seven individuals apprehended for trespassing at the Quabbin Water Reserve in Belchertown, Massachusetts, just after midnight May 14, 2013 are part of an “on-going criminal matter,” according to the Massachusetts State Police.

In response to a Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) request for names, addresses, court dates, and charges filed against the seven individuals, the Office of Chief Legal Council for the Massachusetts State Police cited several state statutes exempting the release of information requested.

“Please be advised G.L. c. 4, XXSSXX 7 cl. 26(a) exempts from public disclosure any records that are “specifically or by necessary implication exempted from disclosure by statute.” In this instance, your request falls within this exemption since releasing the requested information would violate… the Criminal Offender Record Information (“CORI”) statute.”

What the heck? Getting busted for trespassing is like getting a speeding ticket. There is no reason this information should be kept secret. Why are the staties hiding it? What’s the “ongoing criminal matter?” Is this just Massachusetts p.c. mania out of control, or were we lied to in May?

    Stay tuned…
