Sammys New Solo Project (Due Late 2013?)

This looks like it's going to happen, but news of a new album is a bit scattered. I thought I'd start a thread in SamLand to keep track of what's going on. If you have any updates or there is something that gets passed over... please contribute.

“I’m in the studio right now with my band, The Wabos, and we’re rehearsing and writing songs,” Hagar revealed when asked about his plans for 2013. “We’re putting something out this year and we’ll probably go out and do 25-30 shows.”

Sammy Hagar has posted a photo of himself with fellow original MONTROSE bandmembers Bill Church (bass) and Denny Carmassi (drums) along with caption "Denny and Bill in town. We recorded some new music last week. It was amazing. We still have that MONTROSE chemistry. Keep ya all posted."

PLOT THICKENS ON SAMMY HAGAR 2013 RELEASE

Guitarist Neal Schon this week posted a comment that he had been recording in the studio this past week with Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony and Chad Smith.
"Just got home from recording with Sammy Hagar, Chad and Mike today. Was Awesome. Also heading into the studio next week with Steve Smith again.... Feeling rejuvenated and inspired."
The sessions are for the new Sammy Hagar solo album due later this year, to be followed by a two month tour for the red rocker.

Then were was the stuff from a couple months ago where he talked about his new songs. He said there were going to be 4 new songs on a 4 album CD:

1.) "I Ain't Going Down" to represent his Montrose era (the song was written by the band Rival Sons)
2.) "Bad on Fours," a car tune to represent his Redrocker solo era
3.) "All We Need Is an Island" to represent The Wabos
4.) Some song to represent his era with VH (somehow)

Assuming it would be a greatest hits, but how would they have a CD of VH songs? Live versions? Re-cut versions?

Now it sounds like it will be a new studio album--probably those with the songs with Schon.

And before this he said he is probably just going to release 4 new songs but not an album because of the times.

So who knows what the fuck is going on!

He should also do a song a to represent his Samson & Hagar era...

Holy shit! Is that Bill Church on the right of Sammy? Man, he's old! He looks like he's been living in a log cabin out in the wilderness.

I applaud Sam for his continuous use of social media to get ideas across. There are very few artists his age who embrace digital the way he does. And it's smart, because most of his videos have been accurate representations of what he's up to and wants to do.

Cool. Hope we see some good stuff from this

Wait, I assume you mean 3 new songs specifically with this version of HSAS and not 3 new songs on the whole album??

It sounds like the album will be with the Wabo's on a few tracks and a few with this new version of H.S.A.S. I'd prefer a whole album worth of H.S.A.S, atleast we'll get some heavy stuff. With the Wabo's its usually the beach party stuff, and I don't want no more "Livin' it up" vibe music....

Alright--thanks JTCanavera--so the new studio-or-greatest hits album will be coming out in mid-September, two weeks after the St. Louis show. Sounds like it will be a studio album now with more than 4 new songs, different as originally-planned:

-Some of the new songs will be Montrose-ish with at least 1 written by that new band, Rival Sons, with the remaining Montrose members, Bill and Dennis, playing. "I Ain't Going Down" is one, and he said "2 or 3 songs" so there's a couple more.

-1 or more will be his '70s-'80s-type solo songs, like "Bad on Fours" mentioned before and now another (I think), a duet with Kid Rock called, "Knocked Down, Drag (Out?)."

-1 or more will be the HSAS2 band we just saw promos for (or HSAS3 if you count Hagar/Satriani/Anthony/Smith) that will be some HSAS/VH/Chickenfoot-type songs. He singularized "song" but preceded it with "some" so it must be a couple, which I'm sure it is since they're broadcasting it.

-1 will be a beach/Wabos song with Nancy Wilson ("All We Need Is an Island").

And Smoke is on another one.

Awesome. Anyways, please come to Pittsburgh and/or Cleveland. And I disagree with the Chickenfoot comments. They gotta start playing at least a couple Van Hagar songs. We're on the third tour now. Play some Chili Peps, do a Satch-instrumental, and throw in some of his and Mikey's biggest VH hits. And I still think they should at least do one Foot song on this tour as the encore, no matter who's playing.

    I'm right about this, damnit.

If he does do another Greatest Hits as originally planned, I'd do it like this. It would make sense if he did since he hasn't done one in almost 10 years and, outside of the trillion unofficial Capitol/Geffen ones, he's done one every decade. Excluding Van Halen and Montrose: "Rematch" '82 ("and More" '87), "Unboxed" '94, and "The Essential Red Collection" '04. Plus it's his 40th anniversary. So, with the info/new songs given, and including VH legally, without further adouche:

SAMMY HAGAR: FOUR DECADES OF ROCK

    Disc 1:

    MONTROSE

    1. I Ain’t Goin’ Down (with Joe Satriani, Bill Church, and Denny Carmassi)
    2. (New song) (with Joe Satriani, Bill Church, and Denny Carmassi)
    3. Rock the Nation
    4. Bad Motor Scooter
    5. Space Station #5
    6. Rock Candy
    7. Make It Last

    SOLO

    8. Bad on Fours
    9. Knocked Down, Dragged Out (with Kid Rock)
    10. Red
    11. Rock ‘N’ Roll Weekend
    12. Turn Up the Music
    13. I’ve Done Everything for You
    14. Trans Am (Highway Wonderland)
    15. Heavy Metal
    16. I’ll Fall in Love Again
    17. There’s Only One Way to Rock
    18. Fast Times at Ridgemont High
    19. Three Lock Box
    20. Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy

    Disc 2:

    SOLO

    1. Top of the Rock
    2. The Girl Gets Around
    3. I Can’t Drive 55
    4. Winner Takes It All
    5. Give to Live
    6. Eagles Fly

    VAN HALEN

    7. (New song) (with Michael Anthony, Chad Smith, and Neal Schon)
    8. (New song) (with Michael Anthony, Chad Smith, and Neal Schon)
    9. (New song) (with Michael Anthony, Chad Smith, and Neal Schon)

    11. Best of Both Worlds (with Michael Anthony live from "Livin’ It Up! in St. Louis" DVD)
    12. Dreams (live from "Live Hallelujah")
    13. Cabo Wabo (live from "Cosmic Universal Fashion")
    14. Right Now (with Michael Anthony live from "Live Hallelujah")

    WABORITAS

    15. All We Need Is an Island (with Nancy Wilson)

Well, not that it matters/being anal, I guess technically flip-flop "Top of the Rock" and "The Girl Gets Around" because of the order they were released. Also assuming it's a double-CD versus 4-CD set like he said because that's really being unrealistic. And no Foot since he said he probably doesn't want to include them as they are current.
