I just read on Motley.com Randy Castillo has lost his battle with cancer. His last interview I read, he said he was doing great and beating the cancer. I hope this isn't what we are hearing from Eddie's camp and then one day, we get the bad news. Although, I think it might be the case. Eddie might be getting all his financial affairs in order for the family. For the life of me, (excuse the pun), I can't think of any other reason why VH would treat their fans so poor unless Eddie is very ill, and they want him to have privacy until he passes. I am not trying to bring everyone down, but what the hell else is going on. Another thing, I think this could possibly be the reason Sam and Dave are going to tour. They both know Eddie is very ill, and know now is the time to go on a tour together so it generates news for the both of them. Just my thougts.

Very sad to read that Randy has passed. I thought he was doing better as well. Sadly I agree.I fear that Eddie is sicker than we all know. It's just been too quiet in the Van Halen Camp. I have nightmares that I am going to pull up a news web site soon, and find out that Eddie has passed. I don't mean to scare anyone, and I pray I am wrong, but it's just been too silent. I don't like all this at all. No news is not always good news!

Unfortunately, not much is a given in life besides death and taxes. We can only hope that Eddie's health is okay.

    R.I.P. Randy Castillo...

You were a great drummer, and I remember the first time I saw Randy perform was in April of 1986 with Ozzy at the meadowlands in NJ! I also him with Ozzy in 1988 and 1989 with Ozzy!!!

Here is a page with his discography!

I'll miss Randy, he was a great drummer. He used to do that cool trick where he'd catch his sticks in midair between cymbal crashes. I always hate to see great musicians lost. I have always been optimistic about Eddie, but who really knows? But if I were Eddie and dying, I'd be working hard at giving Dave another chance and cementing my legend as much as I could before the end. Music is therapeutic. Eddie just doesn't seem to have the attitude of a dying man, though. And I doubt Valerie would be doing that show if he was...

    Ahhh man. This really stinks.

I hate to hear this. Randy was an incredible drummer and when things like this happens, that cirlce of invicibility we all may feel protects us all gets a little smaller.

    RIP, Randy.

PS...I can only offer my heartfelt prayers for Ed and his family if this is indeed what they are preparing for. I'd hope he could understand the fans would like to be there to show their support NOW instead of when it'd be too late for him to see.

Eddie has always had this huge smile on his face in almost any picture I've seen. That tells me he's pretty much a happy guy. Now I'm not trying to be naive here, but *most* anyone with a positive attitude can beat cancer. The mind is a powerful thing.
I wouldn't get too worried guys. I think the reason for no news is because there just isn't any. Eddie probably caught the cancer early enough to treat. I tend to think that the best has yet to come.

gabby, could you please clarify what you mean by this? I don't really believe this one at all, personally. I've seen 2 of my family members both succumb to the horrors of cancer and they were both extremely bright and positive people. My mom-in-law had breast cancer that eventually took her life, but to see her eyes light up when we brought our newborn daughter over to see her was indeed an incredible experience. I think that moment really meant a lot to her and my wife. She (mom-in-law) had SO much to live for and so much she wanted to do, but was unable to really beat the disease. However, she never stopped smiling, even until the end.

The last time I checked, NO ONE has beaten cancer due to a positive outlook. Cancer can and often does go into "remission" for awhile but it's got nothing to do with whether or not someone has a smile on their face or a positve attitude.

Heck, it's even been noted that Randy Castillo was excited about the opportunity of working with Mike Inez on a new project as he proclaimed he was back to being 100% back in November. Sounds like he had a powerful outlook at that time.

Just because you see Ed smiling in a lot of pics, don't be fooled into thinking he's cancer free or "he's beaten it". Ed smiles a lot period. Look at the pic of him and Tommy Shaw's wife. I don't know about you, but behind the smile, I see someone who is extremely tired, worn out and may just be a little sicker than he's letting on. Maybe he's looking to just take life easy.

It's great to cheer loved ones on as they battle this horrendous disease. That's all we can do when that happens...that and pray for a miracle. It's at those times that people realize what is truly important in life, like family. If that's what Ed is doing now, that's great. Sure we'd all like to see him back in his red & black overalls with the Frankenstein, but time moves on and things happen. Bad things to good people. It's then our job to be the support for those people and let them know we're there for them with our love and prayers, regardless of what happens and we'll be there with them 'til the end and beyond.

Again, my condolences, my prayers and support to the Castillo family and my best wishes for the Van Halens.

Let's stay positive until we have something to be upset about. Sure it's possible that Ed is very ill. To me, that would be the most logical explanation for 3 years of silence, but let's not mourn him before we have any reason to. Hopefully the silence will end some time this year and the news will be all good.

It's sad about Randy, but even with the state of Van Halen right now, that's a ghoulish thing to say.

How could I forget Randy Castillo?
He drums on one of my favorite female hard rock CDs, Lita Ford's "Dancin' On The Edge" (1984)!
    "Dressed To Kill" &
    "Hit 'N Run"
are my favorites especially since they're consecutive songs (one played right after the other)!
"Don't Let Me Down Tonight" was the choice for the 2nd to last song.
R.I.P. Randy, I gotta play that CD in your honor!
