I would have mowed 5000 lawns for this (but did not). How cool of a blast from the past is this little site?

I had a Laguna 101 with Skyway 1's. I loved that damned bike more than anything I owned.

Mine was yellow. The banana seat was bitching. Like a dumbass kid, I started tricking it out with a longer sissy bar and fork extensions. Completely fucked it up. Lol.

I had a bright green stingray with a daisy patterned banana seat and a wicker basket with daisy appliques in which I carried a miniature Lousiville slugger souvenir baseball bat for whacking bullies

ok this is long winded so sorry for the long read.

i used to race at bmx tracks from 1981 to 1985.....bikes i had....

black and red 1981 mongoose with black skyway 1 rims

1982 aluminum frame PK ripper with blue skyway2 rims (wish i never sold that one)...

    1983 chrome and red powerlite

1983 chrome CW racing series 1 with original CW racing handlebars , black parts

1984-85 Torker series 1 split frame chrome, with blue parts , with landing gear forks and redline flight cranks.

i always tell people that in the early 80s bmx shops on the upper east coast were like head shops , small , dingy , and secretive with stoners and boarders working there , (freestyle was something only bob haro did and it would never get popular )...and you had to custom order your bikes to build...no two bikes were the same...all the frames were chromemoly and hand welded and chrome dipped in little parts shops in southern cali and took about two weeks to get one...

my huge regret is that at 16 in late 85 right before bmx really blew up my friends decided that bikes wernt cool anymore and we had to have cars and sell off our bikes...i was like why cant we have cars and bikes ? but i like a dumb ass follower gave in to our new "phase"........my mother ,bless her, my god was she mad and tried to tell me i was being a follower and dumb ass....and she was right..i look at how much all those bikes are worth now and just facepalm myself......and ive been a reader of bmx museum.com since 2005.

i was just hitting my stride and my body was starting to fill out and my mother tried to explain i hadnt even got past novice class at the local track and to be patient....sigh i really could of used a father figure back then to say" nope not selling these , going in storage and later you ll understand"...btw i blew the money fast after realizing about insurance and financing ( and that having rich parents helped out in getting a sports car at 16.)

hey if anybody wants to talk shop or memories or ideas just inbox me.

I was checking into pricing on some of these relics and a totally rebuilt to the 9's cook bros goes for about $1500!!! That is a bike that in 1980 cost maybe $300. Being from So Cal we only had the local bikes around here but after spending hours on that site I now realize just how many bikes there were I never even knew about.

i totally remember cook bros racing ! i always wanted a frame/fork set.....i do remember cook bros being a very small shop so it took awhile to have your frame made , and the shop i got my frames and forks from had a strict no return policy on the small shop made frames so i was hesitant to order one just by pictures , i remember i ordered a redline powerline series frame and forks and the welding joints and chrome finish were sloppy....when i tried to return it the hippie owner was not happy that a 14 yo kid was pointing out flaws on a special order frame...i was banned from that particular shop over that....so i was always hesitant about ordering frame and forks unless i could see them and the local shop stocked them after that.

there was a small racing frame shop/company out of the mid west called patterson racing...i always wanted their 20 inch long frame and forks because i was tall too.

man i dreamed all the time of living in southern cali those years , i watch old vids on you tube and there is this magical vibe to the bmx scene from 1980 to 1985.

Damn you for posting the link!!!
I have thw Webco I got for Christmas in 1977.
Restored it in '85 and it is exactly as it was from then.
It still has the original baby-shit-green coating on the mags.
I have looked at every one on the website and all have been repainted.

Colossal time killer...this site will be.

The "mania" started in '76 and it started peaking about '80. All this time I never realized how many of the top end bikes were made right in So Cal. There were bike shops all over that started teams and raced against each other that started an organization called Hotline BMX and everyone was in it. That and I remember soccer being huge along with skateboarding and surfing. This place used to be a paradise in the 70's and 80's before the illegal immigrants invaded it.

I had a Diamond Back back in the day. Best present ever.

I wish I still had it, worth a fortune now.

Early 80s in So Cal with a BMX was an amazing time.

I remember the 'cool' kids had either a Diamond Back or Redline. I had neither but I rode the shit out of my Huffy and rode proud.
